Dearest Yulegiver, I would first like to say thank you in advance!! I know I give pretty vague guidance, but genuinely I'm not hard to please at all, especially when being the gift of something in one of these very small fandoms! My main hope is that you have fun and enjoy writing it in the knowledge I'm going to have fun reading it.

GENERAL LIKES

Character heavy stories, competency porn, codependency, happy or bittersweet endings, queer people as a normal facet of life, banter, worldbuilding, weird magic, women having genuine agency, bravery in the face of defeat, sparring (especially as a source of sexual tension).

GENERAL DISLIKES

No death of children or rape as a central storyline please. I'm okay with it being included (and know it comes with the territory of some of the fandoms I've requested) just prefer it to not be a main focus. I would also prefer a story that isn't truly bleak or grim dark - I do love a tragic story but prefer if the getting there makes the ending earned and their lives still having been worth living rather than just rocks into a void, if that makes sense? Bittersweet endings very welcomed, happy ones too!

THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH

I love the story of this (both book and movie form!) and will never be tired of looking for more of it! I'd love to see something featuring Cottia, whether that's during or before or after the story's events. I love all three of them as a trio together, whether romantically or platonically, and am so curious about the life they'll build together afterwards!

SWORD AT SUNSET

Everything about this was so haunting and desperately driven, but in particular I'd love anything focusing on Guenhumara and everything she went through. I would also absolutely accept anything about the weird, weird magical stuff and other women in the story in a heartbeat, even if it doesn't feature Guenhumara!

HARDY BOYS

I'm just terribly fond of these two nonsense codependent teenage detectives and am absolutely fascinated by what happens to them as they get older! As you may be able to tell from my own writing, I'm happy for it to be platonic or romantic.

IN OTHER LANDS

I have been obsessed with this story since it was coming out in livejournal posts a.... look, a long time ago. I love the main trio so, so much, and I would happily read anything about them or honestly a story from another character's POV entirely where they're getting up to nonsense in the background. I'd particularly be tickled with something set during Serene's time away with her people, it's such a fascinating piece of culture building and would be so fun to see expanded on further. (PS, if you haven't read Tears Waiting to Be Diamonds, a free story set a few years after the book, and you love this book as much as I do, you absolutely have to. Here's Part One.)

PELLINOR

Expounding on anything from the appendices and what happens after the story ends would make me delighted! I'm particularly interested in Maerad and Cadvan and their lives, which seem to have been both entwined and separate, and worldbuilding around the Bards and their schools and the varying kinds of magic! Worldbuilding centric or Maerad centric or a combination thereof is top of my list but I have a great fondness for all the characters and will be happy for anything.

ALEX RIDER

The books left an indelible imprint on me a long time ago and I really, really enjoyed the show and it's adapting of them! I was especially delighted by the addition of Kyra and would love to see some more exploration of her - show canon only, show canon with book canon brought in, however you like. I'd also be delighted for something that focuses on the very real trauma that Alex has been through and how he's handling it, or a fun romp where Alex and Tom and Kyra get to actually just be teenagers together for a bit, or honestly any number of things those are just the three that first spring to mind.

comments

I shall try to add a little more detail to this eventually but honestly I am very happy with so many things.

HARDY BOYS

Look, I just love Joe and Frank being their codependent nonsense selves. And as may be apparent in my own writing, I'm fine with it being entirely platonic or not at all.

IN OTHER LANDS

If you have not read Tears Waiting To Be Diamonds and love this book, you should, it's free online, and also it will hurt you. Regardless, I just want anything about these three in the period post book and whatever happened for that whole thing. Doesn't even have to be all of them (though ideally yes).

THE LIBRARY TRILOGY

I don't know what to tell you, dear writer. This book devoured my soul and I loved it and need more. More of any part of it, but would especially be delighted by Livira and Malar as The Thing occurs or as they wait, or Evar and his siblings, or - honestly anything. I've been dragging my heels on reading the second book but if nothing else I will make it my job to read it before Yuletide drops so nobody has to worry about spoilers.

PELLINOR

I love that we have appendices and also I would love more detail on what happens to them after the story ends! Anybody in the story, really, though I admit a particular fondness for Maerad and Cadvan and what they did afterwards. I'd also be interested in a Saliman centric story, either before books or post books or both! Similar with Hekibel.

EAGLE OF THE NINTH (2011)

Look, I loved this movie, I love the book it's based on (and all of her other work), you could write me anything about the characters from movie or book or mingled and I would be thrilled.

ALCHEMICAL JOURNEYS SERIES

I adored the dynamic we had between Roger and Dodger and Erin for the brief stretch it was all of them and then in Seasonal Fears, I will take anything at all that involves the three of them and their weird messy dynamic!

GENERAL DNWs/LIKES

As much as I love angst I also love there to be some amount of hope! I'd prefer no straight up rape storylines.

I love competency, I love codependency, I love worldbuilding and weird magic. I love so many things and have very few deal breakers tbh, so mostly I just want you to enjoy writing whatever you write!

comments

<strike> is it actually 2021? is this really the 14th year of the exchange? oh wow</strike>.

<strike>oh god it's already 2022 and i am a deeply lazy person. i've done some more specific prompts/requests in the form this year but will re use this letter for my general likes and dislikes.</strike>

<strike>how the actual fuck is it 2023</strike>

<strike>i give up, time is a weird soup and i don't understand how it keeps happening</strike>

the time does just keep happening somehow

I love a truly wide array of stories and story types, so please just find whatever in my interests Sparks Joy for you in writing and have fun <3. If it fulfills even one of the "things I like" then I'm going to be happy. I love a good Narnia story.

Narnia Specific Dislikes: please treat the Problem of Susan with sympathy for Susan and her siblings and no vilification of any of them if it should come up. I personally don't like Aslan portrayed as benevolent all kindly god - he's not a Tame Lion, after all, and gods work in mysterious ways.

Narnia Specific Likes: this place has so much weird mythology and history that we don't really get to see explored, and I'm here for all of it. I love Susan and Edmund together as kind of the shadowy siblings, I'm fascinated by how the Pevensies built and maintained the Golden Age. I think my interests these days tend more Narnia centric in terms of setting but that is not to say I'm opposed to England stories, especially AU's (Susan and Edmund both survive and cope together is a fave, but there are SO MANY good options). The women of Narnia don't get enough centrism in the stories, so I'm particularly happy whenever stories make them the main character. Charn is so weird??? What the fuck is up with stars? How many gods are there hanging out in Narnia? The fuck is up with the Wood Between Worlds? we have SO MANY unanswered questions and I love stories that try to answer them, or just world build some back story. Sentient Cair Paravel is a concept I love and anything kind of similar is probably also going to land very well for me. Recently I've become fascinated by Swanwhite as the last Queen of Narnia before the Telmarines invaded and also just the general time frame of the Telmarine invasion! Genuinely there is so much lore going on in this place and I would be delighted for a story that explores any of it.

General Things I Love In Stories: character studies, worldbuilding heavy stories, competency, codependency, I do love a good crossover, banter, happy endings, bittersweet endings, there is always some hope, lgbtq+ people being just a normal facet of life. Also, when I say I love a good crossover I mean it, please do not hesitate to do a crossover if that's something you like. I've done or read crossovers for Narnia with Doctor Who, BBC Merlin, Supernatural, The Book That Wouldn't Burn, Leverage, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Inception, The Dark Is Rising - probably more. Narnia works so well as a crossover. Narnia crosses over so well with so much - Arthurian mythology! Lewis' weird space trilogy! Mythology of all kinds! I don't even know, just know that as long as I have a vague knowledge of the given fandom I'll be happy with it. This is not to pressure you into a crossover, I just want it to be clear that it's genuinely fine.

This poem is one of my biggest Narnia feelings. Also this one.

Things I Do Not Want: truly grimdark stories (i love tragedy but i also like some hope). No explicit noncon.

comments

man defaulting from a fanfiction challenge for the first time ever feels really weird. so sorry, yuletide! but i am just not cut out for fanfiction this year, which i should have realized earlier. i may browse through and see if i can write some treats, but i really just do not seem to have fanfiction mojo. it's a weird feeling!

i am so bad at regularly updating, and at checking my flist. it's hard to remember to keep up multiple platforms of contact with friends! twitter, plurk, email, dreamwidth, livejournal, aim - all sorts of places with friends i want to talk to. and there are only so many hours in a day!

perhaps i should set up a "if i'm not around dreamwidth i am in these places!" post so that it is always to reach me one way or another.

in assorted things!

+ new TARDIS interior nooo I'm sure the new one will be beautiful (Gallifreyan!) but I have so much fondness for the old one and its steampunk self and that old typewriter and the glass column I will miss it a great deal.

+ I have been watching through Life with a friend, and it is a beautiful beautiful show, oh wow. I am loving it so much. Only three episodes to go what will I do when it's over? Weep, probably.

+ I have been watching Elementary too, with said friend, and it is doing fantastic. You guys should all be watching it I think, I am pretty sure the majority of people I know would really enjoy it a lot! The relationships are complicated and done really well and the acting is beautiful and it's a very very human Holmes who's been through a lot. BASICALLY I REALLY LOVE IT AND IF YOU WANT ME TO WORD VOMIT ON YOU I WILL.

+ Sometimes I feel sad I broke up with Supernatural but then I don't. Except it's a longer more complicated emotional moment than that. Oh shows and feelings about them.

comments

The internet is kind of crappy and reallyyyy slow, but oh well. It is serving my purposes.

So firstly I wanted to give my massive, massive thanks for everything you guys said in the anonymous love meme. I don't even know what to say beyond flailing and thank you because it really means an incredible amount to me, everything you said and just. <33333333 I love you guys all so much.

So yeah, I'm travelling again. I don't know when I won't be travelling for the next month and a half, actually. I may be back at at the hostel for a few days inbetween travelling and going home for my sister's wedding. Then I'm home for the wedding from January 18 and I'm back like... Feb. 1stish? to begin work at the hostel again.

Also I wrote Supernatural/Leverage fic while pinch-hitting for the Crossover Exchange, and it is up on A03 and I'm running out of time so can't link to it, but yeah. It is there! It is Dean/Eliot.

I love all you guys an immense amount!
Back from camp, done with the last day of work, HOLIDAYS.

oh yeah also Mary broke her collarbone. so. um. that happened.

Also Crossover Exchange!

Nevcolleil wrote me a lovely Criminal Minds/Inception crossover, Life Ain't A Dream, about Spencer and Arthur and their tangled life together. You guys should go check it out, it's really nice and I love the idea of Spencer and Arthur being childhood friends who wreaked havoc together before turning into something more.

I wrote The Curious Case of the Time Agent and His Sister for turkeyish, a Torchwood/Narnia fic which is actually set roughly in the same universe as that other Torchwood/Narnia fic I did ages ago, To Go Nowhere With You. (I strongly suspect there will be an Edmund/Ianto coda to this fic prettyyy soon. Also there is the fic that is specifically a sequel to TGNWY.) I am also writing a pinch hit which will show up sometime soon. Also I want to thank flyakate again for being an invaluable and wonderful beta. That fic was in a horrific state when she got it, and she did a quick turnaround and a very good beta on it at the same time. <3333

ALSO erasureathon has started and the person erasing for me is amazing and has already done one. xenoamorist erased Far From His Home and turned it into as small as a world and as large as alone, which is an amazing, beautiful piece of poetry about Castiel and Dean being in love and the awkwardness of bodies and it is really, stupendously well done. YOU SHOULD GO READ IT.

ps I am sort of watching TV but mostly just sitting around joining Aidan and Mary in their epic Battlestar Galactica watch. It mostly goes like this. "Betsy is it going to get better? At all?" "... Well, no, not really." "ARGH." *puts on another episode*

comments
