So I'm trying desperately to finish, edit and submit my fic for the Narnia Fic Exchange this weekend, before Mary and Aidan get here. (OMG SO EXCITED)

Could I get some beta volunteers? The only bit you'd need to know is Voyage of the Dawn Treader, primarily bookverse. It's about 1,400 words right now, and it'll probably wind up around 2,000, maybe a little bit over. I'm not sure right now. It's trying to overshoot the limits I have. *eyes it* I don't have much time, so I doubt it'll get much longer than 2,000 words.

I was rewatching Half Blood Prince, which always gives me an urge to write an epic post-DH fic about Malfoy and his family recovering and moving on. I just have a lot of Feelings about Narcissa and Malfoy, okay! A LOT OF FEELINGS. (Lucius I don't have much sympathy for, really.) I'm just pretty sure someone has done it better, so the few sentences I wrote before I was like "Betsy shut up and write NFE" are stuck in limbo with the Prentiss-in-hiding fic and Hardy-Boys-in-trouble fic.

I want to get those done, hmmm. I think next year for Yuletide I'll see if I can sign up with the Hardy Boys.

cannot wait to see Deathly Hallow Part II. They were never as huge a part of my childhood as they were of so many people's, but everything I hear says it's a fantastic movie, and I think I'd definitely regret it if I didn't see it in theaters.

comments

Things I have been up to in RL - mailing in voting registration! going through stacks of college info! I have a list of 5 colleges I'm almost definitely applying to - Yale, Brown, Adelphi, Tulane, and U of C, which about fifteen other colleges I'm going to look through to bring that up to 8 total.

Flist, you are fantastic, by the way. Out of the five colleges I am definitely applying to, my flist is either going to or knows people at four of them. I am like this \o/ at how amazing you are, and how kind and helpful. <33333

Also I am joining a rock climbing team most likely, as of tomorrow! So that'll be interesting. Hopefully with instruction and frequent guided practice I'll be able to start getting V3's, which would be fabulous. (I will also possibly be competing. Ack!)

Fannishly I am fairly quiet. I shall probably be signing up for the xover_exchange, and I have to finish my two help_pakistan projects (A;TLA fic and T:SCC vid), but other than that I won't be doing much. Watched the first episode of this season's Merlin and just couldn't get into it except for a few moments, which made me sad. I might keep trying, but I don't watch TV when it feels like a chore more than anything.

On the other hand, L&O: UK has a new episode! Jamie Bamber and Freema Aygeman on my screen again was a delight, and the rest of the cast is pretty great too. The episode was kind of horrifying but also quite well done, and I enjoyed it a lot. Pity there's so little of it. :(

Off to do homework and SAT prep! Maybe I shall cook today too, if I can get it in before I go to Teen Court.

comments

So this Tuesday starts my senior year of high school. The fall is going to be interesting - I'm only taking three dual-enrolled classes (Astronomy, American History to 1876, and Pre-History to Medieval Humanities), but I have to study for the SAT, the ACT, and the World History, Literature, and Mathematics Level I SAT Subject Tests. Also get applications for colleges together, and figure out where I want to go. I'm a big fan of Yale and Brown, and my chances are a lot better now that [redacted awesome news not allowed to tell until Wednesday], but I still really need to have third and fourth and fifth choices (I don't particularly want to apply to more than five schools, but I will if necessary). Hopefully I'll be visiting colleges some weekend this fall, which should help me figure out. Part of the problem in finding the schools I want to apply to is that - well, I have no idea what I'm going to major in. If I do Social Work, I would go to grad school for it, so my majors in college are wide open. Aaaaah.

Also, I really, really like teaching people. It's in my genes, guys! All girls in my family are doomed to teach. :P This Friday at co-op, I went in so that they wouldn't have to come back and pick me up before going somewhere else, and one of the Chemistry students had forgotten to do his homework, so I sat down and helped him with it. It was loads and loads of fun, and I don't even really like Chemistry. I just... enjoyed teaching it to someone. I didn't even mind that it was taking over an hour of my limited computer time that day.

Okay - in the next few months, you can expect my NFE, one White Collar vid, and one as yet unknown fanfic and vid (from help_pakistan). And then I'll probably be pretty quiet on the creation front for a while, though I might do some casual vidding for relaxing purposes.

(AAARGH can I be 18 now stop it LJ with the adult notifications it is less than two months!)

comments

So Aidan's gone as of Friday afternoon (Mary's staying for three weeks, yay!). We went to the beach, to the springs, played Ultimate Frisbee, had a party, and played possibly illegal amounts of board and card games. I socialized for what ended up being almost five days. Still utterly exhausted and anti-social. I slept badly Friday night, woke up three times or so.

Yesterday night I didn't get enough sleep either, for other reasons. Mostly involving The Roach Saga. (I HATE roaches, guys. SO MUCH.) About five in the morning today a roach took it into it's head to be as obnoxious to Mary as possible, including running across her face. *shudder* Then it got onto my bed, and things spiraled out of control from there until Mary was sleeping on the couch in the living room and Katherine and I had the lights on and were watching Primeval (the last four episodes of Season 3) and White Collar's first episode on my bed, while encouraging our dog to kill any roaches she found in our room. So yeah. I got... six hours of sleep last night? I've been alternating between hyper and looking drugged all day. Anyway, that all led to the Great Roach Hunt, wherein Kat and Mary and I spent large portions of today clearing out my room. Really thoroughly.

Come on down to metatardis!
Where we are all definitely madmen in boxes.

It's going to be pretty fabulous, guys. There have already been some great meta-pieces, and I know there'll be more. You should drop by!

Vid recs! I have four.

Your Ghost by charmax is a devastating and beautiful Winchester family epic. The lyrics are utterly perfect, the song is beautiful with the right melancholy to it, and the story told is wonderful. Three generations of Campbells/Winchesters, with all their utter tragedy!

Never Gonna Leave Me by lee_fragilidad is a Syfy Alice vid, Alice/Hatter, and it's just the right mix of upbeat running/fighting and wishful glances. The cutting is sharp and the whole thing is really well-constructed.

Bad Romance by such_heights may have me convinced that I need to finish watching S2 of Merlin. So adorable, omg. ♥

On TV-watching fronts! White Collar 2x01 was quite lovely. Neal and Peter were in fine bickering form, Mozzie played a great role. I only wish there had been more (MUCH MORE) of El and Diana, and that that one Scare hadn't happened at the end.( spoilerrrrrs )

Primeval is pretty wonderful - I wish it was more racially diverse, but they are fairly decent on delivering Awesome Ladies Being Awesome and there is no shortage of handsome men and I am shallow. ( spoilers through 3x03 )

Femgenficathon it is! this needs to be DONE.
+ Hey guys! the femgenficathon is running! sign-ups just finished a bit ago. I picked #17: The worst walls are never the ones you find in your way. The worst walls are the ones you put there--you build yourself. Those are the high ones, the thick ones, the ones with no doors in. --Ursula K. LeGuin (born October 21, 1929), present-day American author, particularly well-known in the science fiction and fantasy genres.

Now, clearly this is a VERY Susan quote, but I am considering writing about someone else, as I am a little Susan/Narnia-ed out. (Well, not really, but I don't know if I could write enough new material on Susan for it.) My options are varied, but I am considering a Criminal Minds lady, or perhaps Samantha Carter? I like the Leverage ladies too, and the SPN ladies! ANNA OMG she would be a good pick! but I do not know if I can write enough of her. I don't think I have a good enough handle on her awesomeness. Morgana, though I have watched, uh, almost none of Season 2? I feel a desire to write Doctor Who or Torchwood, toooo. GUYS I CANNOT PICK there are so many awesome ladies with so many barriers! HELP.

+ WHILE WE'RE ON SPN (even though we weren't) OMG 100 EPISODES I can't even. guys, this is the first show I ever started watching regularly, last year somewhere in the middle of Season 4, and I have been faithful ever since, and it has not failed me. by not failing me, I mean that it has gotten CRACKIER and CRACKIER in the awesomest of ways, with fanservice galore. They have even delivered some on ladies being awesome! though I would like more. I would ALWAYS like more.

and this episode! oh, this episode.( keymash OMG AKSLHDGLKSHD;G SPN <33333333 )

And now poetry!

How To Greet Death by Gabriel Gadfly

( Wear a hint of a grin / and a dash of cologne. )

comments

Hey! I'm hoping to finish the Edmund meets Ianto (in a park, not a bar. the bar comes into it later. a lot.) thing for the 'a ficathon walks into a bar' challenge today or tomorrow, and will need a beta for it, because I'm pretty sure half of this is being written in a state of mind most commonly known as 'kinda cracked out.'

Fic is verging on 2K, not done, and contains so far: time loops, parks, beer, minotaurs, unknown languages, crack, conversational jabs, snark, and flirting. It'll probably contain by the end: Edmund punching Jack, goring by minotaurs, resets, shared angst, ridiculous pranks, absolutely no explanation of what Edmund's doing in Cardiff, and solving the problem. Somehow.

Timewise, this is set shortly post Cyberwoman for Torchwood and after The Silver Chair but other than that unknown for Narnia.

comments

Testing 1.. 2... 3... Yay, crossposting works! I'm be_themoon over on DW too, so yeah. XD I'll be using this lovely crossposting tool I suppose, and I'm considering keeping my fic mostly over here. Why? I don't know. We'll see. XD

I could find Lassiter and Bedlam on here, but I can't remember everyone else's. Anyone with DW, can you drop me a comment with your username so I can add you there please? Thanks muchly!

whynot , thanks for the invite code! In other news, I'm just going to be messing around for the rest of the night, dealing with hopelessly up and down emotions, eating mint chocolate chip ice cream and finishing that ridiculously long HP fic what the heck argh.

comments
