Jun. 16th, 2009 11:33 amUpdate on Sam: mostly, he's just annoyed that he's not allowed to do a lot of running right now. Also, he developed a cold/sore throat on top of this. My brother is talented, y'all.
Also! Watched the Star Trek movie last night. I'd been meaning to for a while, but finally got pushed into it because
bedlamsbard posted some recommendation videos and among them were some great ones for Star Trek, at which point I kind of went 'so all those people flailing about how hot Chris PIne is ... weren't kidding?' and decided it was high time I watched it. It was a pretty great movie, fun, fast-paced, cute boys, Kirk being ridiculous, and George Kirk at the beginning was freaking AWESOME. Naming the child you're never going to see as you die to save it = SO MUCH WIN AND ANGST.
Also, Kirk and Spock are AWWWW.
... Is it a bad thing that I've started taking the sentences from Falls the Shadow and turning them into full stories? O.o It's all Susan and the Doctor, learning to love again and see the beauty in the world again (... perhaps I do too many rehabilitation fics XD - How Do They Rise Up and Falls the Shadow are both centered on that, and several others include the theme), and Susan remembering everything she told herself to forget.

Date: 2009-06-16 04:42 pm (UTC)I watched Star Trek, but I think I got hype-backlashed. Rabid Trek squee was just so all over the place, I couldn't help but have high expectations. So... it fell kinda flat for me. Alas. The Vulcan bullies were pretty lolsome though.
PS I intend to write you your Nimueh/Jadis AT SOME POINT.

Date: 2009-06-16 06:47 pm (UTC)That movie was so fucking shiny. Not even Nat-the-Ex and his "IT WASN'T ORIGINAL STAR TREK" tantrum could ruin it for me.
Also, I have a million fic recs, both gen and K/S, should I do a post on my lj? Would you be interested in that?

Date: 2009-06-16 06:50 pm (UTC)When it comes to watching TV and movies, I can be really, really shallow. e.g., I never really bring any expectations to it, so unless it squicks me out completely I'm pretty much good. Although, huge plot holes? Drive me up the wall. Also wooden acting annoys me. :P
SOME POINT will do swimmingly!

Date: 2009-06-16 06:54 pm (UTC)I'm a shallow movie/TV watcher. If it is pretty and doesn't squick me out and the acting is decent I AM GOOD. Although I do enjoy having a reasonable plot, too. And Star Trek not only delivered on all of them it had KIRK. AND SPOCK. BEING AWESOME.
Possibly my favorite part in the whole movie? "Live long and prosper (bitches). BEST THING EVER.

Date: 2009-06-16 07:14 pm (UTC)I may have to watch this movie JUST BECAUSE OF THIS. Though I have absolutely no idea WHAT Star Trek is even about. *is full of fail*
Hahahahaha, rehabilitation is good. Especially with Susan. Mostly because rehab fic is....so, well, not easy to write, but it just fits so well with Susan. Yeek. Hahaha, maybe I should also watch Doctor Who so I can understand your Doctor/Susan fic better.

Date: 2009-06-16 09:06 pm (UTC)And I would so read more Susan/Doctor!! Like I said in my review, if someone else write it then I don't have to do it, and Doctor Who frightens me too much to start writing in it yet. (I feel like I don't know the canon good enough. I started watching it only 3 months ago...)
And I'm seeing Star Trek tomorrow and this just made me more excited!!

Date: 2009-06-16 10:05 pm (UTC)I WOULD RECOMMEND DOCTOR WHO. *wisenod* I dunno how tight your 'shows I have to watch this summer' schedule is, but I would really suggest to try to fit at least Season 1 of the New Who into it, because it's really lovely. Eccleston = sheer WIN. Tennant's pretty awesome too, but Eccleston captured my heart in his one season as the Doctor.

Date: 2009-06-16 10:16 pm (UTC)There's only a very little bit so far, but there will probably be more Susan/Doctor at some point, simply because I adore the two of them together. I haven't been watching Doctor Who long either (read: ... less than two months?), so I'm a bit worried about my Doctor characterization. :/
Ooh, hope you enjoy! It really was a fun movie.

Date: 2009-06-16 10:41 pm (UTC)Hahah, it's really not that tight of a schedule, all things considered, I'm just really, really lazy, and like to blow things off. I've seen Tennant, I think (he's the Tenth Doctor, right?), when I watched Midnight, but I will definitely try to watch Eccleston's season (from my understanding, and speed!Googling, he's the Ninth Doctor?).

Date: 2009-06-16 10:48 pm (UTC)I really liked your Doctor characterization. It's pretty hard to get personality into just one sentence, but I think you did pretty good=)
