be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Narnia: group: now a big hug!)
So I'm trying desperately to finish, edit and submit my fic for the Narnia Fic Exchange this weekend, before Mary and Aidan get here. (OMG SO EXCITED)

Could I get some beta volunteers? The only bit you'd need to know is Voyage of the Dawn Treader, primarily bookverse. It's about 1,400 words right now, and it'll probably wind up around 2,000, maybe a little bit over. I'm not sure right now. It's trying to overshoot the limits I have. *eyes it* I don't have much time, so I doubt it'll get much longer than 2,000 words.

I was rewatching Half Blood Prince, which always gives me an urge to write an epic post-DH fic about Malfoy and his family recovering and moving on. I just have a lot of Feelings about Narcissa and Malfoy, okay! A LOT OF FEELINGS. (Lucius I don't have much sympathy for, really.) I'm just pretty sure someone has done it better, so the few sentences I wrote before I was like "Betsy shut up and write NFE" are stuck in limbo with the Prentiss-in-hiding fic and Hardy-Boys-in-trouble fic.

I want to get those done, hmmm. I think next year for Yuletide I'll see if I can sign up with the Hardy Boys.

cannot wait to see Deathly Hallow Part II. They were never as huge a part of my childhood as they were of so many people's, but everything I hear says it's a fantastic movie, and I think I'd definitely regret it if I didn't see it in theaters.

First genderswap meme response up here: Golden Age Pevensies & Queen Cassia, picspam & accompanying fic. Yes, that is a new community. I wanted someplace to dump things that wasn't my personal journal. More genderswap replies coming later for: Supernatural, Merlin, Downton Abbey & White Collar.

and now for the Awesome Ladies meme!

the list:

1. Susan Pevensie (Narnia)
2. Keladry of Mindelan (Protector of the Small)
3. Jesse Flores (T:SCC)
4. Amy Pond (Doctor Who)
5. Nikita (Nikita)
6. Lady Mary Crawley (Downton Abbey)
7. Anastasia "Dee" Dualla (Battlestar Galactica)
8. Emily Prentiss (Criminal Minds)
9. Anna Milton (Supernatural)
10. Diana Barrigan (White Collar)
11. Kono Kalakaua (Hawaii Five-0)
12. Holland Donaghue (OC)
13. River Song (Doctor Who)
14. Jenny Lewis (Primeval)
15. Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)

(do you know how hard this was to narrow down? I wanted to put EVERYONE on there. I switched names in and out for probably half an hour before settling on this. SO MANY LADIES.)

and responses!

11 responses. )

and that one meme with your WIP titles. I don't really have a WIP folder, just a writing one, but let's see what I've got in there.

I have got to finish some of this stuff. )

Things I have been up to in RL - mailing in voting registration! going through stacks of college info! I have a list of 5 colleges I'm almost definitely applying to - Yale, Brown, Adelphi, Tulane, and U of C, which about fifteen other colleges I'm going to look through to bring that up to 8 total.

Flist, you are fantastic, by the way. Out of the five colleges I am definitely applying to, my flist is either going to or knows people at four of them. I am like this \o/ at how amazing you are, and how kind and helpful. <33333

Also I am joining a rock climbing team most likely, as of tomorrow! So that'll be interesting. Hopefully with instruction and frequent guided practice I'll be able to start getting V3's, which would be fabulous. (I will also possibly be competing. Ack!)

Fannishly I am fairly quiet. I shall probably be signing up for the xover_exchange, and I have to finish my two help_pakistan projects (A;TLA fic and T:SCC vid), but other than that I won't be doing much. Watched the first episode of this season's Merlin and just couldn't get into it except for a few moments, which made me sad. I might keep trying, but I don't watch TV when it feels like a chore more than anything.

On the other hand, L&O: UK has a new episode! Jamie Bamber and Freema Aygeman on my screen again was a delight, and the rest of the cast is pretty great too. The episode was kind of horrifying but also quite well done, and I enjoyed it a lot. Pity there's so little of it. :(

Off to do homework and SAT prep! Maybe I shall cook today too, if I can get it in before I go to Teen Court.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Narnia: Susan: fire at will)
So this Tuesday starts my senior year of high school. The fall is going to be interesting - I'm only taking three dual-enrolled classes (Astronomy, American History to 1876, and Pre-History to Medieval Humanities), but I have to study for the SAT, the ACT, and the World History, Literature, and Mathematics Level I SAT Subject Tests. Also get applications for colleges together, and figure out where I want to go. I'm a big fan of Yale and Brown, and my chances are a lot better now that [redacted awesome news not allowed to tell until Wednesday], but I still really need to have third and fourth and fifth choices (I don't particularly want to apply to more than five schools, but I will if necessary). Hopefully I'll be visiting colleges some weekend this fall, which should help me figure out. Part of the problem in finding the schools I want to apply to is that - well, I have no idea what I'm going to major in. If I do Social Work, I would go to grad school for it, so my majors in college are wide open. Aaaaah.

Also, I really, really like teaching people. It's in my genes, guys! All girls in my family are doomed to teach. :P This Friday at co-op, I went in so that they wouldn't have to come back and pick me up before going somewhere else, and one of the Chemistry students had forgotten to do his homework, so I sat down and helped him with it. It was loads and loads of fun, and I don't even really like Chemistry. I just... enjoyed teaching it to someone. I didn't even mind that it was taking over an hour of my limited computer time that day.

Okay - in the next few months, you can expect my NFE, one White Collar vid, and one as yet unknown fanfic and vid (from help_pakistan). And then I'll probably be pretty quiet on the creation front for a while, though I might do some casual vidding for relaxing purposes.

(AAARGH can I be 18 now stop it LJ with the adult notifications it is less than two months!)

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Narnia: Susan: fire at will)
Hey guys! My NFE fic should be done tomorrow (Saturday at the latest). Obviously I can't give anything away, but could I get some offers for beta-ing? I'd like to have two different names to submit so if I can't do one of them I don't have to run around searching for a second one, since I'm going to be just scraping deadline as is. (How do I always end up doing this? Don't answer that. Rhetorical.)

In other news, DIANAAAA. NEAAAAL. JONES & PETER & EL and date night! White Collar frequently just makes me SO HAPPY. *flails*

I want to vid ALL THE THIIIINGS. White Collar's camera work is absolutely GORGEOUS. I've been getting episodes all day yesterday and today, and soon I will be ready to vid it up! Although it'll have to go on hold once help_pakistan bidding finishes. (It ends Saturday night, guys! You are missing out if you have not checked out what is being offered! It's pretty epic. :D)

ALSO rock climbing is epic and makes me so HAPPYYYYYYY.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (HL: Methos: not afraid to run away)
So Aidan's gone as of Friday afternoon (Mary's staying for three weeks, yay!). We went to the beach, to the springs, played Ultimate Frisbee, had a party, and played possibly illegal amounts of board and card games. I socialized for what ended up being almost five days. Still utterly exhausted and anti-social. I slept badly Friday night, woke up three times or so.

Yesterday night I didn't get enough sleep either, for other reasons. Mostly involving The Roach Saga. (I HATE roaches, guys. SO MUCH.) About five in the morning today a roach took it into it's head to be as obnoxious to Mary as possible, including running across her face. *shudder* Then it got onto my bed, and things spiraled out of control from there until Mary was sleeping on the couch in the living room and Katherine and I had the lights on and were watching Primeval (the last four episodes of Season 3) and White Collar's first episode on my bed, while encouraging our dog to kill any roaches she found in our room. So yeah. I got... six hours of sleep last night? I've been alternating between hyper and looking drugged all day. Anyway, that all led to the Great Roach Hunt, wherein Kat and Mary and I spent large portions of today clearing out my room. Really thoroughly.

Come on down to metatardis!
Where we are all definitely madmen in boxes.

It's going to be pretty fabulous, guys. There have already been some great meta-pieces, and I know there'll be more. You should drop by!

Vid recs! I have four.

Your Ghost by [livejournal.com profile] charmax is a devastating and beautiful Winchester family epic. The lyrics are utterly perfect, the song is beautiful with the right melancholy to it, and the story told is wonderful. Three generations of Campbells/Winchesters, with all their utter tragedy!

Never Gonna Leave Me by [livejournal.com profile] lee_fragilidad is a Syfy Alice vid, Alice/Hatter, and it's just the right mix of upbeat running/fighting and wishful glances. The cutting is sharp and the whole thing is really well-constructed.

Bad Romance by [personal profile] such_heights may have me convinced that I need to finish watching S2 of Merlin. (I'm.. .not sure why I haven't, actually.) But I definitely have to watch the Morgause episodes, and this vid is why. Gwen/Morgana/Morgause love triangle! WANT.

Lullaby For A Stormy Night by [personal profile] such_heights is the tiny!Amy and Eleven vid we all knew we wanted. So adorable, omg. ♥

On TV-watching fronts! White Collar 2x01 was quite lovely. Neal and Peter were in fine bickering form, Mozzie played a great role. I only wish there had been more (MUCH MORE) of El and Diana, and that that one Scare hadn't happened at the end.spoilerrrrrs )

Primeval is pretty wonderful - I wish it was more racially diverse, but they are fairly decent on delivering Awesome Ladies Being Awesome and there is no shortage of handsome men and I am shallow. spoilers through 3x03 )

Femgenficathon it is! this needs to be DONE. I need to move on! wait what why am I writing Claudia Brown/Jenny Lewis fic all of a sudden. *eyes* but I wanted to write Rosalie fic? except... I guess that's not happening.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (SPN: Castiel: this altogether thunder)
+ Hey guys! the [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon is running! sign-ups just finished a bit ago. I picked #17: The worst walls are never the ones you find in your way. The worst walls are the ones you put there--you build yourself. Those are the high ones, the thick ones, the ones with no doors in. --Ursula K. LeGuin (born October 21, 1929), present-day American author, particularly well-known in the science fiction and fantasy genres.

Now, clearly this is a VERY Susan quote, but I am considering writing about someone else, as I am a little Susan/Narnia-ed out. (Well, not really, but I don't know if I could write enough new material on Susan for it.) My options are varied, but I am considering a Criminal Minds lady, or perhaps Samantha Carter? I like the Leverage ladies too, and the SPN ladies! ANNA OMG she would be a good pick! but I do not know if I can write enough of her. I don't think I have a good enough handle on her awesomeness. Morgana, though I have watched, uh, almost none of Season 2? I feel a desire to write Doctor Who or Torchwood, toooo. GUYS I CANNOT PICK there are so many awesome ladies with so many barriers! HELP.

+ WHILE WE'RE ON SPN (even though we weren't) OMG 100 EPISODES I can't even. guys, this is the first show I ever started watching regularly, last year somewhere in the middle of Season 4, and I have been faithful ever since, and it has not failed me. by not failing me, I mean that it has gotten CRACKIER and CRACKIER in the awesomest of ways, with fanservice galore. They have even delivered some on ladies being awesome! though I would like more. I would ALWAYS like more.

and this episode! oh, this episode.keymash OMG AKSLHDGLKSHD;G SPN <33333333 )

And now poetry!

+ I have my Remix assignment! I am quite pleased. We are matched on fandoms I am quite excited about writing in, wheee!

+ Last night I dreamed about my entire family being home, all together, doing crazy awesome things together, with a guest appearance by Mary, who had magically transported us all to New Zealand. Well, that didn't take much interpreting. *misses Mary*

+ Mary, you couldn't have warned me about 2x01? D: oh, CAMERON. John! PB&J KEEPS THE RESISTANCE OKAY. I finally get that icon of yours. :D

+ I have a very short poem tonight, and then tomorrow I get a Criminal Minds! which has so far been having favorable reactions in areas I trust, so YAY!

it is not so much that I miss you by Dorothea Grossman

It is not so much that I miss you
as the remembering
which I suppose is a form of missing
except more positive,
like the time of the blackout
when fear was my first response
followed by love of the dark.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Torchwood: Ianto: this world is unkind)
Hey! I'm hoping to finish the Edmund meets Ianto (in a park, not a bar. the bar comes into it later. a lot.) thing for the 'a ficathon walks into a bar' challenge today or tomorrow, and will need a beta for it, because I'm pretty sure half of this is being written in a state of mind most commonly known as 'kinda cracked out.'

Fic is verging on 2K, not done, and contains so far: time loops, parks, beer, minotaurs, unknown languages, crack, conversational jabs, snark, and flirting. It'll probably contain by the end: Edmund punching Jack, goring by minotaurs, resets, shared angst, ridiculous pranks, absolutely no explanation of what Edmund's doing in Cardiff, and solving the problem. Somehow.

Timewise, this is set shortly post Cyberwoman for Torchwood and after The Silver Chair but other than that unknown for Narnia.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Narnia: Susan: heroine girl)
Hey! would anyone be interested in beta-ing a 1.5K Susan/Edmund zombie apocalypse fic? warnings for character death and incest, etc.
be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Doctor Who: 9 & Rose: look away)
Apart from having amazing actors, storylines that make me bawl and then yell in triumph, Doctor Who also has FREAKISHLY AWESOME MUSIC. *dies happily*

As evidence, I present to you - "Doomsday" by Murray Gold, "This Is Gallifrey" by Murray Gold, and "Song of Freedom" by Murray Gold. I wonder what else this Gold man has written for... ? Hm. Honestly, though. GORGEOUS. Not to mention The Doctor's Theme itself (not the theme song at the beginning, the Doctor's Theme).

You know what I want? A good icon from the Season 2 Finale, one that has the Doctor and Rose on their different sides of the wall. I had a bit of a look but I couldn't find any. D:

In other news, HP fic out for final beta! Wheee!

ooh.

Testing 1.. 2... 3... Yay, crossposting works! I'm be_themoon over on DW too, so yeah. XD I'll be using this lovely crossposting tool I suppose, and I'm considering keeping my fic mostly over here. Why? I don't know. We'll see. XD

I could find Lassiter and Bedlam on here, but I can't remember everyone else's. Anyone with DW, can you drop me a comment with your username so I can add you there please? Thanks muchly!

[info] - personalwhynot , thanks for the invite code! In other news, I'm just going to be messing around for the rest of the night, dealing with hopelessly up and down emotions, eating mint chocolate chip ice cream and finishing that ridiculously long HP fic what the heck argh.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Avatar: Katara: bend don't break)
Reading "A Prince of Our Disorder" by John E. Mack on recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] almostinstinct , and enjoying it greatly. The excerpts from Lawrence's letters have a very lyrical feel to them. My two particular favorites so far-

"And you can never be quite the old self again. You have forgotten a little bit: or rather pushed it out with a little of the inspiration of what is immortal in someone who has gone before you." -about reading books

"So I fall between them into the nihilism which cannot find, in being, even a false God in which to believe." -on differences between Bedouins and the 'overcivilized' Europeans

I feel like something's just out of reach and I've no idea what this something might be and I'm fairly certain whatever it is I'm heading straight into the metaphysical existential quandary territory again and I'm very tired of that, thanks very much.

Happenstance Harbor is shaping up more in my head. I've finally figured out where the starting point is going to be, and how I can condense the plot into a reasonable timespace (before it was trying to spread out over THREE YEARS. At least!).

While messing around, figured I'd list my WIP's, whether they're ever getting completed or not.

Shadows of Sunshine, original fic
The one that is cliche. Really, really cliche. Twins, magic, elves, scary bad guy, supposed to be a trilogy. Started when I was... twelve? Finished the first book.
Blademistress, original fic - NaNo '06
Quests and magic, the beginning of me trying out some originality, still cliche. Set in the Shadows of Sunshine world v. 2.0
Dark Wings Spreading, original fic
The one where I first start really exploring world-building and setting up the rules of magic. Also the one where there are elves with wings. Currently the last one set in my Shadows of Sunshine world.
Walk The Tides, original fic - NaNo '07
The one where there's a crazy assassin who can cross between our world and another and is always the same age when she comes back to Earth. Looking back, I laugh at how similar this is to Narnia in parts of the premise, because this was written and conceived before I ever went into Narnia fandom at all.
Untitled, original fic - NaNo '08
The one where I take elements of Avatar and write a semi-realistic depiction of children in war fighting for freedom. Kids die, things are dire, and people fall in love.
Untitled, original fic
Wall fics! The ones where I create an alternate Roman world where the Romans have magic creatures.

At the First Glimpse of Thunder, original fic
The one where I do colonial fantasy and spend hours researching and frequently freak out to everyone I know. EVERYONE. And then consider the possibilities of telekinesis in battle and a slow healing speed-up and what would happen if you... yeah. Also, more throwing kids into war. I am good at this, guys.

So that's... 7 WIP's, at least 150K (because I completed three NaNo's) in just under four years. That's also not counting two completed stories co-written with a friend and two others started with her. Or was it three others? We had a lot of trouble finding another one that worked. Also not counting NaNo '05, about 2K when I was ... 12? and was ridiculous, the alternate NaNo '07 where a girl wrote a NaNo novel (oh, but I loved the plot of her novel, I wanted to write that one instead of her writing it if that makes any sense at all?) and the original NaNo '08 which ended up being about 12K and a lot of moralizing and gray areas and like A Song of Ice and Fire in that nobody was good and everyone was bad and it was a mire of political manuevering and evilness and gray and battle and ohgodohgodwe'reallgonnadie! At which point I was like 'WHATEVER' and started writing the one where people were COOL. And not necessarily bad or good but still. COOL.

OH WAIT. I'm also forgetting that one where everyone died! ... what was that plot? I should go look for it. I think it was something about the Young King and Ned and didn't Ned's father get his tongue ripped out? Oh yeah he did. I liked Ned, which of course means that I was evil to him. Oooh, and there was that half-god leading the Westmarch! He was cool! I really need to go looking through my papers and catalogue them somehow because my goodness where did this all come from? I... I really don't remember how I got half of this figured out or started and I'm pretty sure I'm counting somewhere around 300K in all here. I shall think more about this tomorrow. It's summer, after all! I have time to catalogue all my papers!
be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Misc: Text: own that shit)
LJ is so QUIET. It is odd and driving me nuts!

Random HP fic is rapidly approaching two thousand words and... well, I don't know. We'll see. I'll send it off for beta-ing tonight probably ([livejournal.com profile] marycontraire & [livejournal.com profile] torylltales have both offered <333) and then we shall see.

ALSO. APPROPRIATE ICON IS APPROPRIATE. This has been my approximate mood all day. ALL DAAAAAY. I'm not sure if this is good or bad, I think good. Maybe.

I AM OPEN TO CRAZINESS, Y'ALL. SO OPEN.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Harry Potter: Slytherclaw)
Anyone on my f-list interested in beta-reading an HP fic? Hermione-centered, Padma Patil as the other MC I suppose, currently somewhere around 1.5K and buildling. It won't be multi-chapter, just a one-shot, but it will be long. Mostly gen with some subtext and Hermione/Ron, some language, images of war, etc. Probably rated PG-13.

Rewards: my undying thanks, etc. etc., possible fic in the offing for you if you want one, etc. etc.
be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (LotR: Galadriel: smile like sunshine)
I've been reading, y'all! It feels nice - I haven't been able to get almost any reading done this year. I read Carpe Jugulum and Monstrous Regiment for the first time and reread Thud! and Night Watch, and I also reread Johnny Tremain and Calico Bush. I kind of really want fanfiction for those last two, guys. REALLY. Also for Monstrous Regiment, because Lofty and Tonker! Awwww. And I sorta love Maladict, because so awesome. Terry Pratchett does vampires right.

In other news, some sort of something is being written, though I'm not really sure what it is. It's HP fanfic, which is distinctly odd for me (I've done one! Once! For a prompt!) and we shall see. Another sort of something is being written that may or may not be Peter and Edmund being snarky and amusing, sometimes through letters. I'm not really sure.

Also, I'm fairly certain I'm going insane. In a pressure-cooked sort of way becuase even with co-op over there's still people everywhere and so little time to myself and I really, really need to be by myself.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Merlin: Morgana&Arthur: with you)
I went through my icons, cleared out, added new, etc. Now have 1 each of Mulan, LotR and Avatar, 2 of Merlin, and 5 of Narnia, plus five spaces. I have yet to decide what will go in those, but I think a Galadriel icon is definitely in order. *loves Galadriel*

[livejournal.com profile] almostinstinct , I should hopefully have your fic up by tonight. [livejournal.com profile] katakokk , yours will probably follow shortly.

Idea in my brain that wants to be written despite me telling it to shut up: Peter meets Eustace. Eustace is overly enthusiastic about how pretty Narnia is, how it was a smashing adventure and all. Peter gives him the 'I will beat you to death with a shovel' look. Shenanigans ensue, possibly.

Started work on the first chapter of Happenstance Harbor 'verse (tentatively titled 'At The First Glimpse of Thunder'). Yay for writing in chronological order and all that!

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (Pride and Prejudice; your hands are cold)
[livejournal.com profile] almostinstinct , I haven't forgotten about your prompt! I know I posted out of order, but the Castiel&Anna one was all fluffy and wanted to be written. XD I actually have part of yours down, I'm just completely unsure about where to take it. It's trying to grow a plot. *eyes fic*

Also, holy crap hormones running wild! Boys! Really cute boys! It is times like these I am very, very grateful for having firmly resolved not to date, flirt with, or otherwise tease or purposely try to get too close to boys until I'm at least 18, and that I'm able to keep my own resolution. BUT WOW HE GREW UP. I mean, I knew he was taller than me and all, but in formal wear? O.o

I'm really really doomed aren't I?

Maybe it's just the springgggg. Also hormones already out of whack might be having something to do with this. And my emotions already running everywhere and doing their best to make trouble for me.

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (LotR: Eowyn at funeral)
A) I have three prompts so far, and hopefully will have the first by sometime tomorrow (depending on how demanding Revolutionverse is and how well my muse cooperates).

B) My cat is sitting on me. Or was. Apparently it was very important to curl up on my lap for ten seconds and then get off and instead try to bite my fingers as I type. Of course. Cat logic makes so much sense. :P

C) My word, where has my sanity gone? Revolutionverse (which owes it's current name to [livejournal.com profile] katakokk ) is growing much more quickly than I'd expected, with everyone gaining personalities and interactions and ... awesomeness. LOTS OF AWESOMENESS. (Warning: about to link to TV Tropes. Go only at your own time-consuming peril.) My breakdown of their characters. Sebastian Monroe. Cedric Monroe. Holland Monroe. (In short, the Monroes.) Adam Bardsley. Cecilia Bardsley. (In short, these five.) Yeah, I love my charries. *hugs them all*

D) One of these days, I'm going to have to post my list of Narnia music. There's 13 songs (and 2 orchestral pieces) that I listen to pretty much nonstop when I'm writing, but especially when I'm writing Narnia.
