Dearest Yulegiver, I would first like to say thank you in advance!! I know I give pretty vague guidance, but genuinely I'm not hard to please at all, especially when being the gift of something in one of these very small fandoms! My main hope is that you have fun and enjoy writing it in the knowledge I'm going to have fun reading it.

GENERAL LIKES

Character heavy stories, competency porn, codependency, happy or bittersweet endings, queer people as a normal facet of life, banter, worldbuilding, weird magic, women having genuine agency, bravery in the face of defeat, sparring (especially as a source of sexual tension).

GENERAL DISLIKES

No death of children or rape as a central storyline please. I'm okay with it being included (and know it comes with the territory of some of the fandoms I've requested) just prefer it to not be a main focus. I would also prefer a story that isn't truly bleak or grim dark -  I do love a tragic story but prefer if the getting there makes the ending earned and their lives still having been worth living rather than just rocks into a void, if that makes sense? Bittersweet endings very welcomed, happy ones too!

THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH

I love the story of this (both book and movie form!) and will never be tired of looking for more of it! I'd love to see something featuring Cottia, whether that's during or before or after the story's events. I love all three of them as a trio together, whether romantically or platonically, and am so curious about the life they'll build together afterwards!

SWORD AT SUNSET

Everything about this was so haunting and desperately driven, but in particular I'd love anything focusing on Guenhumara and everything she went through. I would also absolutely accept anything about the weird, weird magical stuff and other women in the story in a heartbeat, even if it doesn't feature Guenhumara!

HARDY BOYS

I'm just terribly fond of these two nonsense codependent teenage detectives and am absolutely fascinated by what happens to them as they get older! As you may be able to tell from my own writing, I'm happy for it to be platonic or romantic.

IN OTHER LANDS

I have been obsessed with this story since it was coming out in livejournal posts a.... look, a long time ago. I love the main trio so, so much, and I would happily read anything about them or honestly a story from another character's POV entirely where they're getting up to nonsense in the background. I'd particularly be tickled with something set during Serene's time away with her people, it's such a fascinating piece of culture building and would be so fun to see expanded on further. (PS, if you haven't read Tears Waiting to Be Diamonds, a free story set a few years after the book, and you love this book as much as I do, you absolutely have to. Here's Part One.)

PELLINOR

Expounding on anything from the appendices and what happens after the story ends would make me delighted! I'm particularly interested in Maerad and Cadvan and their lives, which seem to have been both entwined and separate, and worldbuilding around the Bards and their schools and the varying kinds of magic! Worldbuilding centric or Maerad centric or a combination thereof is top of my list but I have a great fondness for all the characters and will be happy for anything.

ALEX RIDER

The books left an indelible imprint on me a long time ago and I really, really enjoyed the show and it's adapting of them! I was especially delighted by the addition of Kyra and would love to see some more exploration of her - show canon only, show canon with book canon brought in, however you like. I'd also be delighted for something that focuses on the very real trauma that Alex has been through and how he's handling it, or a fun romp where Alex and Tom and Kyra get to actually just be teenagers together for a bit, or honestly any number of things those are just the three that first spring to mind.

I shall try to add a little more detail to this eventually but honestly I am very happy with so many things.

HARDY BOYS

Look, I just love Joe and Frank being their codependent nonsense selves. And as may be apparent in my own writing, I'm fine with it being entirely platonic or not at all.

IN OTHER LANDS

If you have not read Tears Waiting To Be Diamonds and love this book, you should, it's free online, and also it will hurt you. Regardless, I just want anything about these three in the period post book and whatever happened for that whole thing. Doesn't even have to be all of them (though ideally yes).

THE LIBRARY TRILOGY

I don't know what to tell you, dear writer. This book devoured my soul and I loved it and need more. More of any part of it, but would especially be delighted by Livira and Malar as The Thing occurs or as they wait, or Evar and his siblings, or - honestly anything. I've been dragging my heels on reading the second book but if nothing else I will make it my job to read it before Yuletide drops so nobody has to worry about spoilers.

PELLINOR

I love that we have appendices and also I would love more detail on what happens to them after the story ends! Anybody in the story, really, though I admit a particular fondness for Maerad and Cadvan and what they did afterwards. I'd also be interested in a Saliman centric story, either before books or post books or both! Similar with Hekibel.

EAGLE OF THE NINTH (2011)

Look, I loved this movie, I love the book it's based on (and all of her other work), you could write me anything about the characters from movie or book or mingled and I would be thrilled

ALCHEMICAL JOURNEYS SERIES

I adored the dynamic we had between Roger and Dodger and Erin for the brief stretch it was all of them and then in Seasonal Fears, I will take anything at all that involves the three of them and their weird messy dynamic!

GENERAL DNWs/LIKES

As much as I love angst I also love there to be some amount of hope! I'd prefer no straight up rape storylines.

I love competency, I love codependency, I love worldbuilding and weird magic. I love so many things and have very few deal breakers tbh, so mostly I just want you to enjoy writing whatever you write!

be_themoon: I want a better world. By me. (YJ: Kaldur: bring it on)
First up! There were some beautiful things written for me recently.

written for me + two vid recs + comic rec )

stuff I've written recently )

And while I don't feel like tracking down all the stuff I wrote this year, I figure I might as well answer the end-of-year writing questions meme because why not?

talking about fic )

Um, I'm also going to declare this free-for-all on asking me anything about anything I've written. I kind of doubt there are questions, but if there are feel free to ask, or tell me that I got something wrong, or other stuff.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Right! So. Dearest of Yuletiders, I pretty much adore you, and I really love these stories, so I'll love pretty much anything you write for them.

I do want to give you some sort of suggestions as to more specific things I like, because I know that I like having some specifics, but don't feel too bound by anything I say. I like a huge range of stuff and I tend to forget to list half of what I like, so.

Anyways.

stuff )

So, uh, yeah. I hope that's not too much detail, and I hope it's enough, and I'm really, really excited for whatever you will write. Seriously. If it's in one of these fandoms and avoids my triggers/squicks - I'm good. And also I love you for this, and I'd really like you to have fun writing this story above all, so. Please, do something that gives you joy.

Thanks!

hey flist!

I feel bad, I have been neglecting - um, everything?

I picked up a few people at the YJ friending meme! I feel like I should introduce myself, but I am really super bad at introductions. Um. Hi, I'm Betsy, I'm working in New Zealand for a year before college, I like reading and writing and music and watching things and LADIES and superheroes (and superhero ladies are double awesome) and politics in the sense of wanting to beat up all the politicians and do something myself and languages and silly things and RPing and Susan Pevensie. (You may think the last one is overly specific compared to the others. It is not. Susan Pevensie is the actual best. She is an entire category of awesome all by herself.)

NaNoWriMo is in five days! This is really exciting to me. I have been wanting to write and doing planning for writing a lot this past year, but I've been so fragmented in my actual writing, bits and pieces of things. NaNo makes me sit down and write a complete narrative, which is always a good and needed thing. HEY HEY HEY you should talk to me about NaNo, anyone else doing it or anyone who just wants to talk!

Also Crossover Exchange (which I should get written this week if I am smart, which invariably I am not when it comes to deadlines), Yuletide when it comes around, and Festivids.

some RL chatter! )

TV-wise, I have nothing but incoherent joy at Downton Abbey, even more incoherent joy for Young Justice (TEAM TEAM THIS TEAM OH MY GOD), an admission that I have GOT to catch up on Criminal Minds and Nikita, and a note that I've been watching a few episodes of Alpha and it seems quite interesting. But I am so open to discussing these shows, definitely.

And that is all I have for today! <3333 Love you guys!

:D

I have turned in all my applications except for the one that is due on the 1st of February! I am assembling some poetry for consideration in scholarships at two of them, which involves a great deal of polishing and going "aaaaaagh why don't I write short stories that are not fannish!".

ALSO I did Yuletide, because I was eligible for the first time eveeer and I wasn't going to pass up on that. And I got Eagle of the Ninth fic!

Aedificāre, by opalmatrix. It is utterly delightful and everything I wanted. I can't believe how lucky I got! IT'S AWESOME. It is subtle, subtle Esca/Marcus/Cottia OT3 as they build the farm and tiptoe around each other and become bestest best friends eveeeeeer. :DDD you should totally read it.

And I wrote:

The Things We Say Are True
Skyhigh. PG-13. Penny/Gwen, Warren.
“I’ve broken a lot of personal rules for you,” Penny says.

Which was quite fun to write, in the end. I really enjoyed it. :D

in other news, I somehow ended up creating a three-part, 21 song fanmix for what's really nothing more than me messing around with typical procedurals/supernatural hunting shows. Or what I had thought was just me having fun! Apparently sometime my brain got serious over it? NO. Bad brain! get back to Cabin Fever, it needs you! no more new projects!

also, my dad comes home this week sometime (which is good, mostly, though difficult as always), school is about to start up again (OMG YAY my schedule is so pretty this spring!), I have actual free time for another week, I'm doing some secretary work for my mom which I shall get paid for, and in general things are shaping up! YAY. TRIPLE YAY. IMAGINE ME GRINNING HAPPILY HERE. The only downside is me having been sick for a week, but even that is getting better!
