Someone said recently that Uhura was 'just the love interest' in the Trek reboot, which irritated me a great deal. I wrote a bit of a rant/essay on women characters and then discovered that voila! sarahtales had done it better! so go read it if you haven't already! (since it's been making a lot of the rounds, there's a strong chance you have.)

You guys, this song is so cute/pretty/awesome! Mason Jennings sings it slow kind of slow and ... peaceful? and my sister Mary sings it with this fast upbeat pace and both versions are really fun to listen to/sing along with.

5. Polly/Mal (Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett)
Polly's a girl devoted to her family, protective of her older, slightly slow brother, and plenty brave and smart. Mal's a vampire who decided war would be exciting, who's developed a coffee addiction to replace her thirst for blood, and who's snarky, rarely talks about herself, and is decidedly smart. And together they are so awesome. Unfortunately, there's no real artwork for the book that shows them. D:

4. Zuko/Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

You know, Aang/Katara is sweet and fluffy and cuddly, but they're so young and Aang's only really got a crush on her (also, he's 13. I'm sorry, I draw the line somewhere). And I really do adore Zuko/Mai - I think it's a really wonderful relationship and I love the way Mai and Zuko complement each other. But Zuko and Katara work so well together, and there's always been tension between them, and she cared about him before any of the others really did, and he's had this almost fixation on her from the very beginning. They fit together so perfectly it's hard not to ship them. I really, really love how they fit together. (And that is post-series artwork by one of the main animators for Avatar, so.)

3. Starbuck/Apollo (Battlestar Galactica Reimagined Series)

You guys, this ship is fabulous. You should all ship them. You should all love them as much as I do. I really, really love these two together, in any respect at all, but especially as lovers. They work fantastically together, they're a really great team, she can make him laugh and he can make her actually smile, they know how to hurt each other and they try not to, they know how to fix each other and they try to, and seeing her in a dress makes him forget how to talk to women. Also? There's no take-backs. There are never any take-backs.

2. Morgana/Arthur/Gwen/Merlin (or any permutation thereof) (BBC Merlin)

First off, these people are all ridiculous amounts of pretty. Secondly, they all have ridiculous amounts of chemistry. Thirdly, they all run around constantly saying how much they all love each other. There is no end to how awesome these four people are, and I quite seriously do ship almost every permutation of this. The only one that's lost my interest is Arthur/Merlin, probably mostly because it is so obvious and everyone else in the whole world ships it. It is still a fabulous ship, I just currently find Arthur/Morgana, Morgana/Gwen, Arthur/Gwen and Merlin/Morgana the most interesting. (Also, I almost put Uther into the mix too, but I thought that might be taking it too far. XD)

1. Peter/Susan (Chronicles of Narnia)

You know what, guys? I get it, okay. C. S. Lewis is sobbing in his grave and needs anti-depressants, incest is wrong, they wouldn't think of each other like that, etc. etc. and so forth. I don't care (especially about Lewis, because his lack of research makes me angry). I love them together. He's the High King, the most important man in Narnia, and she's Queen Susan, his second-in-command, really, and they love each other. And it is as simple as that for me, now, though it took a fair bit of convincing originally. You want to know what convinced me? These and these. No more arguing. Just read them, even if you hate the pairing, because they are works of art.

I have two more things to do (Top Five fanon ships and Top Five canon ships for animus_wyrmis ) but I have to go to co-op in half an hour and I haven't finished my homework yet, and there's fourteen ships in all to detail (two honorable mentions for each category), so I really need to go finish that. I shall do them later! Oh my beautiful ships.

FIRSTLY, happy birthday animus_wyrmis ! I hope it's fabulous, and I wish I had fic for you, but I didn't think I could outdo Lass and I am ficced out. :( If the next Renesmee piece comes out anytime soon, it will probably be because I wanted to get it out for you. <3333333

Honorable Mention No. 2 - Renesmee/Leah or Leah/Angela (Twilight Series)
Um. This is solely from my Renesmee series and Wyrm's fabulous Leah/Angela imprinting fic. They're both almost impossible in the actual verse, and only there in correction things, but I really like both of them, so. *shifty*

Honorable Mention No. 1 - Neville/Luna (Harry Potter)

They are strangely adorable together! Luna's absolutely fabulous and surprisingly clear-headed, and Neville grows up and gets really awesome, and them together is ... well, I really like it. Unfortunately, it's only fanon, as Neville apparently marries Hannah Abbott. :(

5. Hermione/Padma (Harry Potter)

This is so fanon it's almost not funny, in that in-series Padma is only around a little bit, not enough for us to get any idea of her personality other than that she's Ravenclaw so probably smart, and a prefect, so probably studious and well-behaved. I tried to flesh her out in that one huge Harry Potter fic I did, How Do They Rise Up, and I found myself loving her and Hermione together. I kept it from being a romantic relationship, but you guys they would be awesome together. (And I say this as a Hermione/Ron shipper.)

4. Padma/George (Harry Potter)

Go read fahye's fabulous fic Healer and you will see why I ship these two so much. No, seriously. That is all it is based on.

3. Draco/Ginny (Harry Potter)

(Man, Harry Potter is GOOD for fanon shipping.) They would be very pretty together! No, I'm not quite that shallow (not quite). You know, I really like Harry/Ginny. It's a nice ship. I just keep feeling this dissatisfaction that as soon as Ginny got really really awesome (perhaps a bit too awesome - she borders on Mary Sue in a few cases) Harry got her. I was disappointed in that. I just - I don't know. But Draco/Ginny! You guys, there is PROMISE. Looking over the books again recently, I was disappointed in how stereotypically bullyish and cowardly she made Draco - I know that she had a lot to tackle but he's often in center space - I think she could have done a better job with him, made him more human. I think he's got a lot of potential to be a full character, and I think him and Ginny would be a fascinating couple. They're both quite talented (Draco appears to be almost at a level with Hermione in knowledge, if not past her in practical application), they're both from families with strong views, they're both strong-minded, but I also think they could compliment each other really well. I think Ginny could teach Draco a lot about questioning things he's taken for granted, and Draco could do the same for her. I really think they'd be awesome together, and it would make me happier than the 'hero gets the girl' storyline.

2. Zuko/Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

I already did the defending my ship thing in part 1 of this, but I would just like to tell everyone to go here and here for some absolutely fabulous Z/K picspams. Also this one. Oh my ship! How pretty you are. Look how pretty they are!

Honorable Mention No. 2 - Richard/Kahlan (Legend of the Seeker: TV Show)

The books suck, but the show is delightfully cracky and yet quite good at delivering this ship, which is fabulous and very canon and yet it can never be! (Have they solved this yet? I hope they do soon!) Richard and Kahlan are gorgeous together, and it's really believably shown how much they care for another, and it's kept pretty consistent. Basically, they're adorable. Look at that picture! Awwwww.

Honorable Mention No. 1 - Faramir/Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)

You guys, this was the first thing I ever shipped. I was like, eight. And then Miranda Otto and David Wenham made me like it even more. It is fabulous. I love these two so much. Awwwwwwww! <33333 In honor of being my first ship, they get the biggest picspam. XD

5. Carrot/Angua (Discworld, the Night Watch Arc)
Sadly, there is no official art to be had for them, but man, these two are adorable. She's a werewolf who's abandoned her(I hear somewhat lawless) family to join the Watch and try to do good. She's cranky, feminist, doesn't wear dresses much, drinks, doesn't open up easily, and is really tough. He's the six-foot not-so-unknown heir to the throne who considers himself a dwarf because he grew up with them, is prudish, always clean-shaven, impossibly optimistic, and really scary when he's angry. And somehow they just go together. They're awesome.

4. Lizzy/Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)

You guys, does anyone NOT ship this? (Don't answer that. I mean it. If you link me to Jane/Wickham fic I will be forced to bleach my mind, and that would be sad.)
