Poetry & Music

So I just realized that whenever I write the Merlin/Narnia commentfic, I'm listening to the same four or five songs. Red by Elbow, Mad Mission by Patty Griffin, and Mad World by Gary Jules. These are now my default Narnia songs, apparently, particularly for Peter. Especially Mad World, for right after PC, when he's just doomed.
ALSO, G. K. CHESTERTON, WUT.
Lepanto has always made me just want to cry because it's so well written and I will probably never write poetry THAT GOOD. But now I'm reading through the rest of his poetry, and OMG A PRAYER FOR DARKNESS.
If I dare snarl between this sun and sod,
Whimper and clamour, give me grace to own,
In sun and rain and fruit in season shown,
The shining silence of the scorn of God.
Gold Leaves is also freakishly beautiful. This is not FAIR.
I'm just going to go read poetry and be content. Maybe write some happy angst. Or just angst. Look, I don't know. I feel weirdly peaceful today half the time, but as soon as someone else walks into the room I go all tense.
I'd really rather just be by myself and write and talk to y'all today.
ETA: HOLY CRAP. LOOK LOOK. HERE. The Myth of Arthur. The last bit, what does it say?
Take comfort; rest--there needs not this ado.
You shall not be a myth, I promise you.
THERE. PETER TO ARTHUR. AWWWW.

Date: 2009-03-29 09:36 pm (UTC)(Arthur has been thinking about what Peter has revealed about his future more than he ought to, and, frankly, it scares him in a way that nothing else has ever scared him. Because he sees Peter now and knows that unless someone changes something, that will be him.
Peter is vicious, sharp, deadly, but all this is clouded with perpetual frustration and sorrow. He laughs and jokes with his siblings, sometimes with Arthur, but still, there is a brokenness to him. He sees the raw anger flare up in Peter's eyes and pities the other blond's successors.
There is also an intimidating quality to him that Arthur still finds difficult to overcome. The only way Arthur can think of to put it is a legend come to life. Peter's life is a legend, not a reality, but yet it is. He is only a knight at Camelot, and a frighteningly competent one at that, but Arthur knows that he is a king greater than Uther, and finds himself naturally revering him as such.
Arthur continues to keep his distance until, one day, Peter pushes him up against a wall and kisses him long and deep, his hands inching up Arthur's shirt. Something comes alive in him, and he doesn't know what, but he loves it. It makes him feel, as cliche as it sounds, complete.
Afterwards, when they're lying next to each other in bed, content, Peter turns over suddenly and looks him straight in the eye. "I know how you're feeling, why you're scared. Don't be, because there isn't anything to be scared over. Not if I have anything to do with it.")
