Because I utterly fail at dramatic introductions, here is my Narnia playlist.

Only You by Sinead O'Connor

Love theme from The Young Victoria

My love
Your love
Has opened up a world I’ve never known
All hope
Was found
A place I never dreamed I would go
Feels like only yesterday I had locked my heart away
Safe behind a castle of stone
Sure I’d always be alone
Only you know how
To hear me through the silence
You reach a part of me that no one else can see
Forever true there’s only me and only you
Only me and you

In your face I trust
With you beside me I am standing strong
One truth
Two hearts
You took my life and made it beautiful
So you dared to let me shine
Even walk a step behind
Willingly you give yourself to me
Knowing who I was born to be
Only you know how
To hear me through the silence
You reach a part of me that no one else can see
Forever true there’s only me
And only you
Only me and you

Only you know how
To hear me through the silence
You reach a part of me that no one else can see
Forever true there’s only me
And only you
Only me and you

Betsy Commentates: I'm not actually particularly sure how this one ended up on the list of music that I play when I write Narnia, but it did. I think for the most part I've come to associate it with Narnia/Peter, and sometimes Peter&Susan. Or perhaps just the Pevensies for each other in general? Honestly, they are so co-dependant sometimes (or all the time, actually). But mostly, I think it's Peter/Narnia, either one speaking, because they both need each other ('the king and the land, holding a silent vigil for each other throughout time').

Clothes of Sand by Nick Drake

Who has dressed you in strange clothes of sand
Who has taken you far from my land
Who has said that my sayings were wrong
And who will say that I stayed much too long?

Clothes of sand have covered your face
Given you meaning but taken my place
So make your way on down to the sea
Something has taken you so far from me.

Does it now seem worth all the colour of skies
To see the earth through painted eyes
To look through panes of shaded glass
See the stains of winter's grass.

Can you now return to from where you came
Try to burn your changing name
Or with silver spoons and coloured light
Will you worship moons in winter's night.

Clothes of sand have covered your face
Given you meaning but taken my place
So make your way on down to the sea
Something has taken you so far from me.

Betsy Commentates: I first found this one from either [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard or [livejournal.com profile] lassiterfics , who I believe applied it to Aslan and Susan (Aslan talking) post-Narnia. I agree with that a lot, but I also sometimes subconsciously apply it to Peter and Susan post-Narnia, Peter talking. Either interpretation works for me, and I rather love this song for them.

Somewhere Only We Know by Keane

I walked across, an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth, beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when, you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin.

I came across, a fallen elm tree,
I felt the branches; are they looking at me?
Is this the place, we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when, you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
So if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go, somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know.

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So, tell me when you gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
So if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything.
So why don't we go, so why don't we go.

Hmmm yeahh.

This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go, somewhere only we know,
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know.

Betsy Commentates: Oh my goodness. This song has been one of my favorites for a while, and while I only recently started applying it to Narnia it works so well for it (at least in my mind). Any of the Pevensies about Narnia. Really. For me it works the best of all for Susan post-LB if I ever actually admit that happened because just listen to it! So pretty and so right for it!

Red by Elbow

Come as you are sweetheart, come as you are.
You know you've got nothing to prove
I'll put you to bed you can let it all go
You've been playing too rough lately

You burn too bright
You live too fast
This can't go on too long
You're a tragedy starting to happen
Just as you are. Perfect just as your are
I'll give you the time you deserve.
Don't make those promises
Don't tell me again.
That dust is gonna settle your nerves.

Betsy Commentates: For the most part this is Peter to me, though technically one could apply it to any of the Pevensies. It just fits best for my fanon Peter, because he's the one most destroyed by it. Even better and more heart-breaking is when you imagine one of the other Pevensies being the one saying it to Peter. This whole song is very much so Peter. Poor Peter.

Sticks and Stones by The Pierces

Hey domino,
I am stopping you from falling
1-2-3 Don’t you dare go down
Hey waterfall,
Oh can you hear me calling?
3-2-1 don’t you dare touch the ground

I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want

Well, sticks and stones will break your bones
And leave you lying in the mud
But you get scared when we’re alone
Like I might suck your blood
Well I could tell you a witch’s spell
But it just might blow your top
Then you start to run just as I’m having fun
And it’s awfully hard to stop
Its awfully hard to stop

Sun in the sky,
I am stopping you from burning
All we need is stars and moon
Clock on the wall,
I will keep your hands from turning
Or this night will end too soon

I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want

Well, sticks and stones will break your bones
And leave you lying in the mud
But you get scared when we’re alone
Like I might suck your blood
And I could tell you a witch’s spell
But it just might blow your top
Then you start to run just as I’m having fun
And it’s awfully hard to stop
Its awfully hard to stop
It’s just too hard to stop

Ooooh
Hey lover boy,
Oh, now do you believe me?
That’s not all that I can do
Sit back down,
I’m afraid we won’t be leaving
Cant undo my spell on you

I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want
I’m the one you want

Well sticks and stones will break your bones
And leave you lying in the mud
But you get scared when we’re alone
Like I might suck your blood
And I could tell you a witch’s spell
But you just might blow your top
Then you start to run just as I’m having fun
And it’s awfully hard to stop

Well sticks and stones will break your bones
And leave you lying in the mud
But you get scared when we’re alone
Like I might suck your blood
And I could tell you a witch’s spell
But you just might blow your top
Then you start to run just as I’m having fun
And it’s awfully hard to stop
Its awfully hard to stop
It’s just too hard to stop
I don’t think I can stop

Betsy Commentates: Jadis, guys. YEAH.

Mad Mission by Patty Griffin

We were drinking like the Irish
But we were drinking scotch
Bartender turned on a movie
Everybody turned to watch
And every single eye was gleaming
As he reached the final scene
Well, at least mine did
Here's lookin' at you, kid

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
not everybody makes it
To the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
sign me up

I think I've seen the look before,yes,
it's kind of non-commital
It says come hither, baby, but then he's hard wood to whittle
it says it don't mean a thing, but still, somebody does
He'd like you to join the club that likes to say
there's no such thing as love and

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
not everybody makes it
To the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
sign me up

Sometimes you find yourself
flying low at night
Flying blind and looking for
Any sign of light
You're cold and scared, and all alone
You'd do anything just to make it home

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
not everybody makes it
To the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
sign me up

Sign me up

Betsy Commentates: Um, yeah. Peter again. He's so lost post-Narnia. He just wants to make it home, and he knows that he never can and he just goes reckless and ridiculous. Poor guy.

Perfect by Alanis Morisette

Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face
Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder
How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet
Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud
I'll live for you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem ...... why are you crying
Be a good boy
Push a little farther now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect

Betsy Commentates: Narnia to the Pevensies (with a special emphasis on the three oldest). Honestly, I don't know what else to say about it except that it's perfect. And that it's also my Sebastian-song in original fic. *pats Seb*

I'm Afraid There's A Hole In My Brain by Playradioplay!

I dream a little bit about the chance of seeing you
And outside stays true
And outside through the window pane
And the hole in my brain
I'm getting hold of myself

And honey it's stunning at such a peculiar place
I see the wrinkles in your face start to deepen and form

And I said we'll run until the sun burns out
And I'd like to know
Who wants to run until the sun burns out
And I'd like to

Honey it's fitting at such an unusual time
I see the freckles and the lines start to darken and sag

Betsy Commentates: Pevensies. So awesome and yet so tragically doomed. Why so doomed pretty people? :( Basically, the Pevensies about each other post-Narnia is how I tend to see this song (and of course the line 'I'm getting hold of myself' is a horrible lie), and how they can see each other's older selves crammed awkwardly into young bodies, and how they can't do everything they used to, and how they're lying to each other every minute of every day now because none of them are fine at all and how everything's falling apart and they're trying to deny it.

Never Let Go by Josh Groban

I can't understand it.
The search for an answer is met with a darker day.
And we've been handed these moments forever.
But I'm reassured there's another way.
You don't have to close your eyes.
There is room for love again.
Ease the pain to realize
All that love can be.
Forced apart by time and sand.
Take a step and take my hand.
And don't let it go.
Never let go.

Broken, once connected,
We were so strong and so blessed in a simple way.
So don't let me go it alone.
Turn your head up to the sky.
Nothing down below but me.
Face the truth to realize
All that we could be.
Torn apart by rage and fear.
Hold onto what brought you here.
Don't let it go.
Never let go.

Turn your head up to the sky.
Nothing down below.
Don't let go.

Betsy Commentates: Narnia to the Pevensies (possibly particularly Peter) in Prince Caspian. Just look at the lyrics and listen and see? Totally Narnia to the Pevensies in Prince Caspian.

Mad World by Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Goin' nowhere, goin' nowhere
Their tears are fillin' up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dyin'
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Mad world, mad world

Children waitin' for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sits and listen, sits and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson?
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dyin'
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Mad world, mad world

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dyin'
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad world, mad world
Mad world, mad world
Mad world

Betsy Commentates: The Pevensies post-Narnia (... most of this playlist is post-Narnia, isn't it? I guess it's easier to find songs for angst? Hmmm).

Arwen's Song
From Return of the King, sung by Liv Tyler

With a sigh you turn away
With a deepening heart
No more words to say
You will find that the world
Has changed forever

And the trees are now turning
From green to gold
And the sun is now fading
I wish I could hold you closer

Betsy Commentates: The Pevensies on Narnia. Short, sweet, simple, sad, and also fitting in with season symbolism (LOOKIE AUTUMN. WHICH IS WHEN THEY LEFT XD).

Finishing Up: Predominantly post-Narnia stuff, quite a lot of songs I associate with Peter and or Susan, and a lot of stuff that's Narnia itself talking to the Pevensies, or them talking to her. Much love to everyone, I hope you enjoy them!

OH. ALL OF THIS. BETSY, THIS IS AWESOME.

I am officially going to have to listen to all these songs when I'm not in the library at school where audio isn't allowed.

ALSO, the Seb song? IT MAKES ME WANT TO SEE(/WRITE...is that possible? It is your Revolutionverse after all, and I dunno if I could get Seb's character down) SEB AND, LIKE, HIS SON IN THE FUTURE. BECAUSE IT JUST FITS. Or possibly, I will steal that song and make it for Tristun and his kid...if he ever has one. :)

If you want to give Revolutionverse a spin, feel free! I think I'd rather you didn't write anything in the story timeline (from when Celia turns 15 to when Seb's about twenty-one) because I don't want to worry about having maybe stolen ideas from you, but any other time's perfectly game. XD

I really, really love these songs, so yay other people listening to them!

Well, what I had in mind takes place, at the very least, six of seven years after the story's timeline. And, ultimately, I may or may not write it, but it's a very adorable plot bunny. ♥ Perhaps I should indulge in these bunnies more. Then I'd feel more productive. XD
