argggh why does my dad always blame it on everyone else but him?

also, what the heck? he cannot put the baseball game on here and not allow me to play my music or watch anything and then work on his own computer, which has sound! like the one in the schoolroom i normally have to work on does not!

basically, he wanted me to put on the radio mlb.tv for the yankee game, i got it up and firefox immediately slowed to a freakin' crawl. he said 'well your stuff often does slow down the computer.' which, no, what slows down the computer is him saving hundreds of pictures of baseball pitchers and also downloading every derek price sermon ever! that is what slows a computer down. i had word and firefox up. in firefox i had yahoo, songza and a poem up. that is all! and it was going more or less fine before. the mlb radio thing said 'error, cannot process your request'. firefox was barely moving, i had to get out of everything and quit and reboot it to get it to work at all and when i told him this his basic reaction was 'this is obviously your fault! mlb radio takes up no space at all!'

damn it i'm the one who was there and watching!

oh, look, he's back to be a jerk again.

fuck this shit. that is all. fuck. this. shit.

*furious*

*commiserates* my mother's the same way.

my brother too, come to think of it. Say, if a chair that had been broken and rewelded (REALLY shoddily) -twice- happens to break -again-, it's obviously because -my- fat arse was jumping up and down on it like a demented 5-year-old! because nobody else in this house sits in chairs!

*pours us both a drink* Double Scotch on the rocks, for me. et tu?

Augh, my mother is like that too. She never thinks anything is her fault and acts like such a fucking child sometimes, shoving the blame for everything on everyone, but mostly me (she has literal temper tantrums, if that is any evidence) that I just want to scream. And then my dad walks in and tells me to "calm down." So, yeah. I know how you feel.

*hugs*

*commiserates* My dad's like that too. His favorite thing is bellowing really loudly that my mom should "lighten up". He wasn't even in the same room and therefore had no idea what the situation was.

When we don't try to help him out, we're ungrateful little jerks, but when we do, we're only patronizing him. And then they try to get me to pick sides. Ugh.

Get him an external hard drive and clean out all the pictures and sermons. And say that streaming media - videos and audio - still take up processing power and temporary memory on the computer, especially if the computer is already close to its memory limit.

As I grow up, it is more and more disappointing as I increasingly discover in the adults around me that immaturity doesn't disappear with age.

Man, I hear you on the Problem of Susan. Narnia issue no. 1!

Hmmmm. What's it like on there? I poked around and some of their recced stories are AWESOME and some are...not, and it seems very het-oriented. Is it femslash friendly? What are the people like?

SUSANNNNN.

The people are really nice! I think the people on there tend to be much more the purist Narnian fans - y'know, Aslan is wonderful and it's all idyllic, which I tend to not hold to much, mostly because I associate Aslan with God and I have all sorts of issues in that direction. Also, uh, Aslan's a bit of a bastard, really. So I tend to have about the opposite of opinions on some things as them, but they are really nice people. Femslash, uh. I kind of doubt that. They seem very het-oriented. (Which reminds me! I keep wanting to write some sort of Golden Age Lucy-centered fic and I just have so many problems with her character!)

I just had another idea - has the computer been reformatted at all or recently? It's possible that it's host to lots of spyware/malware/viruses and other bits of random crap, which would drastically slow a computer down, especially an older computer. At the very least, you can clear out the spyware with an array of free software.

Hmmmm. I would be tempted to join because omg Narnia discussion, but I'm not sure how much conservative stuff I can deal with anymore.

I agree--I tend to think of Aslan as a good guy, but I tend to also think of him as non-omnipotent too. Very wise but very limited. Because otherwise? He's a BASTARD.

(Omg, write it! What kind of problems???)

Conservative, argh. I know! He has to be a limited god (and like Bedlam has pointed out, if you notice there is absolutely no evidence that he had anything to do with bringing them there - the only world-crossing that he is definitely involved with is the Pevensies leaving. Which I find a bit interesting. So while they are really nice, it can be really frustrating that everyone is very 'Aslan is wonderful! It was like a wonderful holiday!'. (annoyance of the day: I commented on a guy on LJ's essay on the Problem of Susan, who took a very conservative Christian viewpoint of she kicked herself out, essentially, it's all her fault. And he responded and said at some point something along the lines of 'I feel like it was a wonderful holiday. Sure, they'd love to go back, but I don't think they were heartbroken about it.' My reaction: OMGWUT. RULED A KINGDOM FOR 15 YEARS. NOT A HOLIDAY!' only a lot more politely phrased.)

a) it's Lucy. I just find writing Lucy so hard. b) It would be femslash, definitely (I see Lucy as bi tending strongly towards girls), and not Susan/Lucy, so I'd have to come up with an OC. Narnian OC's are difficult for me. c) Golden Age! d) no. mustn't. start. another. story. *dies*

Hopefully sometime once I've gotten a lot of other things done I'll give her a go, though. *crosses fingers*

Seriously! I can write morally evil/gray Aslan, but I hate to do it--so usually he's just limited. I think that's interesting about the worlds--you're right, he only sends them back twice (and I guess he sends Eustace and Rilian in SC?). I've never thought he had anything to do with bringing them into Narnia in PC or out of it in LWW; I don't really know about VDT or the start of LWW. The other thing is that if he's really in charge of it all, why wait until a hundred years into the Witch's reign, you know? Presumably any four kids (or...ASLAN HIMSELF) would have managed it unless he was constrained by something.

WHAT. Do you have a link? I would love to read your comments. But a lot of that is Lewis's spin on things too--he cuts LWW after a week and then shoves them back home. And then the Professor gives them such unhelpful advice because he doesn't get it either. :/

OMG THAT ALL SOUNDS AWESOME. DOOOOO IT.

Man, I totally agree with everything you said there. And to some extent it's the same with visiting Narnia to begin with--for the other Friends of Narnia, it was just a fun break. But the Pevensies have to leave EVERYTHING behind with no guarantee they'll ever see their parents or their home again. The only way they can do this is to forget it all. Does that not bother Lewis???

Also, it irritates me when people try to put all of the Susan Problem onto her vanity* without recognizing the bigger patterns in Narnia re: women and women's agency, sexuality, and adulthood.

*which totally makes no sense because she wasn't vain until LB
