I almost didn't include Lucy's mom at all, but I ended up really liking the tiny glimpse we did get of her. She was a lot of fun to write! And man, I was so annoyed when I had to cut the shopping scene, because I had loved writing it.
Possibly the most interesting thing was considering where Kyoshi had come from, and I extrapolated from her sternness and very calm consideration of killing someone if it's needed to make her an army brat - it was also a really fun chance to explore the Avatar world. XD
