+ katakokk , if you want a book that's basically all about the American Navy under sail, check out 'The Boys Were Men: The American Navy in the Age of Fighting Sail,' by Forrest McDonald. I think others on my f-list would probably like it too, as a matter of fact. It's a really nice book - I enjoyed it a lot.

+ you guys, I break my political/religious science to say this: how fucked up is this whole Rifqa Bary thing? honestly. unfortunately for me, I live close to where she came (of all states, she picked Florida? really?), and so have to endure articles about her almost every day, and every single one lowers my opinion of her intelligence EVEN MORE. you want facts, boy have I GOT FACTS. *headdesk* basically, wtf, Rifqa. wtf.

+ I'm getting very annoyed at the regular use by people I know in RL of the word gay as a sort of slang word for 'ridiculous/silly/weird/annoying'. I hear "that's so gay!" really frequently, and (this would be amusing if it didn't infuriate) most frequently at the Christian homeschooled co-op! yeah, I know. it's interesting to note that I don't think I have EVER heard gay used like that at choir, most likely because of Shane, who graduated two years ago, was in choir for ten years, has a fantastic voice, everyone liked him, and is quite openly gay. I just... the small-mindedness of the people at co-op is GRATING ON MY NERVES. A LOT. This is only one of the things that they are bothering me with!

+ xover_exchange sign-ups are open! I have my sign-up form saved and am debating sending it in, though I'm sure I'll end up doing it. what can I say? I have no willpower when it comes to saying no to potentially awesome stuff.

+ I feel... twitchy? I dunno. Eh.

MAYBE JUST MAYBE I spent way too long on the sign-up, but man I don't even know if I have the vim to go after this. I'm glad Narnia made it on as a fandom XD and that X-Files is too (hooray resurrected dead fandoms!) but I dunno. I'll sit on this application and decide last minute if I want to go.

I feel pretty twitchy too. I need to start exercising or something, but today is gonna be about doing my readings and buying stuff I need.

Also, I know what you mean, especially the fact that people at a Christian co-op would be saying "gay" all the time. The only time I ever use the word gay to describe something is when it is could actually be described as homosexual (the subtext on Merlin, for example), and just using it as slang is not cool. At all.

And I feel twitchy too! But that may be because I haven't exercised today. *shrugs* It poured here, my field hockey game got canceled.

I, uh, spent a long time on it too. A while. *facepalm* and I sent it in because honestly? CROSSOVERS. I want to write, but I need an incentive. and this will probably be fabulous. (please let there not be much homework during those weeks. PLEASE.) NARNIAAA! If it hadn't made it on, there's a good chance I wouldn't have signed up. but it did!

exercise is good! /hypocrite yeah, I need to get off my butt and start biking, but I haven't since I fell off (I've been having issues with my left arm ever since). But I have to bike 5 miles this Fri., so. maybe that'll help. :/

it's a joy to read, and it's got all these neat stories about captains and people and boats and also details on what makes these ships better than those ships, etc. if you can find it, I think you'll like it!

it's this ridiculous mess where a Muslim girl converted to Christianity and then a year later ran away from home to Florida, where she stayed with evangelical Christians for two weeks after telling them her parents were going to kill her because they were extremist Muslims. except her older brother? throws wild parties when his parents are gone and freely admits he's not much of a Muslim. Rifqa herself? was a cheerleader. it's a ridiculous, extremely annoying mess, and it's turned into an ugly fight mostly waged by extremist Christians, who are trying to keep her from being returned to even her home state, which is evaluating the danger to her and would place her in foster care.

I know! it makes me want to punch people. grrrrrrrr. okay, well maybe not, but it does make me itch to whip out my smart-girl-sarcasm-bitch-out, which is never a good thing for me to do. ever.

awww, it's never fun when games get canceled! though rain, on the other hand, is loads of fun. XD

I'm beginning to think I won't sign up. I just got my Camelot Solstice assignment and I don't know if I'll have the energy to do another one. I actually would prefer the crossovers one to this one but EH, I don't feel like fudging with that now. Also, thank god there is an AU prompt because I am feeling a bit tired of the whole faux medieval setting after overdosing on Narnia and Merlin for like a year.

Captains! Boats! Ship v. ship! I am excited to read this. I have to make a trip to the library this weekend for school anyways, so hopefully I can get it then. :)

Okay, that's just stupid. Extremist Muslims would never allow their daughter to be a cheerleader, and their son to be "not much of a Muslim." Obviously, she was trying to garner their sympathy. Also, those extremist Christians? Open your eyes. This makes me want to hit somebody with a field hockey stick.
