+ my library got in around 11 new Pratchett books. feast on those words. ELEVEN NEW PRATCHETT BOOKS THAT I HAVEN'T READ ASHKLGHDLFKDJGS. well, that's no longer true. I've already finished three of them - Jingo, Equal Rites, and Thief of Time, all three of which were FABULOUS. I now feel a great desire more of Susan Sto Helit, and thoroughly understand why so many people seem to adore her. she's fantastic! not to mention, my mom picked one of them up because she was certain she would disapprove, started reading, and got hooked! AHAHAHA. she picked up Going Postal, which I'd just brought home and haven't read yet, and was all 'how come I have never heard of him? he's hilarious! how did you find out?' :DDDDDD yayyy! I don't know how long her interest will last - probably until she finds out there are witches - but until then, hooray!

+ hahaha, TV this week was fabulous. more on Merlin... sometime later.

+ NaNo! NANO NANO NANO. in short, NaNo. :D I'm reworking my nostalgia novel into a story about revolution and magic and oppression and lots of geekery on language and philosophy and mythology and idealogy and who knows what else. it will be fun!

+ speaking of which, music! I went through my music and wrote down the songs that fit the story. so here's a... for lack of a better word... fanmix for my novel. heh. no download, but they're all available on songza.com

Undone by Kat Tingey
Can I stay with you?
Can I lead you away from the world that you know?
Do I really deserve to be selfish like this?
I'm undone.
Should I go?

Anna to, oh, everyone in her life, especially Katie and Jared.

Between by Vienna Teng
we both draw back in our minds
I have a prophecy
threatening to spill into words
this growing certainty
of Over

Anna and Jared, pulling apart.

Doomsday by Murray Gold
Instrumental

Because what story of mine doesn't have some sort of horrible tragedy? And this is one originating in Narnia, Merlin and my own family/childhood, so yeah. Tragedy.

Vienna by Billy Joel
But then if you're so smart tell me why
Are you still so afraid?
Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?

My darlings, who are constantly running around trying to fix tomorrow.

Circus by Britney Spears
There's only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain and the ones that observe

Heh. Sorry, uh, it's just very much a Jared and Anna song.

Mad Mission by Patty Griffin
It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
not everybody makes it
To the loving cup

It's a very mad mission.

Get Out the Map by The Indigo Girls
Get out the map get out the map and lay your finger anywhere down
We'll leave the figuring to those we pass on our way out of town

It's the road trip song, what can I say?

Drought by Vienna Teng
Summer move forward and stitch me the fabric of fall
Wrap life in the brilliance of death to humble us all

&
And the landscape of merry and desperate drought

eeeee!

Fighter Girl by Mason Jennings
Hey, hey, little fighter girl
It's you and me up against this whole wide world now
Sleeping together in the lion's den
Got your earrings in my pocket till I see you again

This is the general love song among them, I rather think. It's perfect for any of them, except for perhaps Owen/Jared, which is barely there. Real subtext instead of the rest, which is only theoretically subtext.

Gravity by Vienna Teng
So don't turn away now
I am turning in revolution
These are the scars that silence carved
On me

It is a revolution song! (there should probably be more revolution songs on this playlist, considering the story is supposed to be about revolution. hm. do you know any good revolution songs?)

Drops of Jupiter by Train
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

REVOLUTION SONGS WOO

have you ever seen Motorcycle Diaries? it is a pretty great movie idealizing young Che Guevara, when he's traveling South America and not yet a violent revolutionary and still just a bleeding heart for Latin America. anyway, the soundtrack is really good. and this icon is from it. whee.

let me think you up a revolution mix, and I will post at least a list for you soon :D

I am so excited that both you and Z are writing stories like this. Hooray!

I really liked Going Postal. I'm such a sucker for stories about the power of words. I haven't had time to read the other Pratchett books I've bought. Maybe next week over my self-designated vacation to Massachusetts! I've started Night Watch, but one of the things that puts me off is how long the timey-wimey time travel tangents are. It's timey-wimey anyway, why does it need to be drawn out.

hee! this is what Merlin does to you - it makes you want to write about magic and revolution!

omg, my favorite part in that book so far (I'm right where he meets the Smoking GNU) is the section about 'GNU John Dearheart', going up and down the whole line. it's ridiculously sad and makes me want to cry - actually, anything about the men in the clacks fascinates me, almost more than the rest of the story, and I'm not sure why. I want more about the clack-men! but the letters wanting to be sent, that was pretty awesome too. :D and I like the whole story.

OMG I LOVE TERRY PRATCHETT! :3 I remember reading Equal Rites. It was the third Pratchett novel I'd ever read.

Hahaha, I'm so glad I'm not the only one whose been thinking of coming up with a playlist for my novel! XD I don't think I'd call it a fanmix exactly, though (but it probably is).

Esk is so adorable! I could see that Granny wasn't quite fully realized as a character yet, but she was still her awesome, awesome self.

it really helps, for me at least, to get me to cement some of the themes and moods of the story. especially for the individual characters! and then when writing it's really helpful.

Oh gosh, I love that song so much <3 I’ve sort of adopted it as my theme whenever I feel overwhelmed at anything.

NaNo! I was thinking of doing this steampunk thing, just to give my muse a kick....but almost at the same time, the plotbunnies in my fandoms started breeding inexplicably. So I’m thinking of making those into ‘my’ own personal NaNo instead .:3

YOU BETTER BE because I swear to god I will cut you... oh wait. kidding. right. hehe.

sorry for the overreaction there. :P

me too! it's pretty much my theme song of choice, right up there with 'Don't Stop Believing' (by the Glee cast, of course). they are my favorite songs ever!

NANOOOOO. OMG STEAMPUNK I WOULD READ IT IN A HEARTBEAT. everytime people talk about their steampunk plots I find myself completely and totally intrigued, but I have yet to read almost any! I need to remedy this, but I don't know how. *pouts* BUT YES! man, I have a bunch of people on my f-list doing NaNo! this year will be FABULOUS. (which reminds me, I keep forgetting to friend you back. done!)

Yes, yes—I simply love the world of airships and clockwork and steam-powered cities and islands floating in midair…and I know that’s just the surface of it! <3 I’ve fallen in love with this sort of fantasy realm in so many video games and anime, but I actually haven’t had a lot of encounters with it in literature.

Am toying around with this plot where an unlikely group of teens navigate floating cities, doing odd jobs ala Mal and his crew in Joss Whedon’s “Firefly”. I’ve had the characters sketched out in my mind. But! I need to research/read more on that type of world.
Or if I do lose my mind and decide to join NaNo this year, I’ll just make things up and have some mindless fun.: p

Well…YA author Scott Westerfeld’s got a new book out that I’ve been anticipating for a while. The book trailer looks amazingly cool; I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Or you could always follow that link from his blog….it’s Steampunk Month, apparently :3

it's ridiculously awesome! I don't know, I've gained this huge enthusiasm recently for the more subtle forms of fantasy - alternate histories on Earth, urban fantasy, ones that (technically) aren't whole other worlds but still are. they are waaaaaaay too awesome. *happy sigh* I keep feeling this desire to put steampunk into my own story, but it already has magic! oh... wait... that... that makes a weird amount of sense OMG OMG SHIT. no more plot bunnies! NO MORE.

that sounds awesome! well, you've still got like 3/4 of a month to do some research/work on it in, and if you need to you can just make things up! this is what NaNo is all about! (okay, not actually, but you know.) and you should totally do NaNo! I will help yell at you if you need yelling at, and encouragement and prodding and plot-bouncing, and all that other attendant stuff! the more people doing NaNo with me, the awesomer! *bounces*

*incoherent glee* OH MY GOD I WANT THIS BOOK I WANT IT SO BADLY that looks ridiculously awesome. *runs to see if library has it*

MUUUUUUSIC. <333 I am muchly enjoying all this Vienna Teng. She's great. And bb, now you make me want to make a soundtrack for my decling empire 'verse (which STILL needs a name), except that's long and complicated and it's already long and complicated and...I don't know. I'll think about it.

I'm reworking my nostalgia novel into a story about revolution and magic and oppression and lots of geekery on language and philosophy and mythology and idealogy and who knows what else. it will be fun!

Magic! Revolution! Um, there is revolution in my fic? Only possibly? But it's by people that you...don't like? And it's so based off of Narnia that it may as well be fanfiction. Also, geekery on language and philosophy and mythology and OH BB. <3333 You make me so excited, and you also make me want to make my NaNo even MORE complex. Um.

Hahaha, but if I ever come up with some sort of soundtrack or other fic-related stuff that you make me want to mess with (there are already half-mixes for some other original fic, but), I'll post it up for you to see. :)

isn't she just? she's got this gorgeous voice and fantastic lyrics and hgklashdgls wheeeeeee! YOU SHOULD YOU SHOULD. MUSICCCCCC.

And it's so based off of Narnia that it may as well be fanfiction.
Oh, don't worry about that! my nostalgia 'verse got it's origins in Merlin, Narnia and my childhood so far, so I'm practically writing fanfiction too. :DDD

oh yay! I always like to see more music.

Hopefully, I will post the soundtrack/songlist/mix tonight if I can manage to kick my brother off the computer (he's been hogging the computer with all my writing-related stuff on it).
