be_themoonOriginally, this was going to involve a lot of talking, but I decided to keep that to a minimum.
Nikita is a wonderful show, clever, interesting, good plots, and multiple women, all with fascinating interactions. Their relationships are varied and complex - the men in the show are important too, but undeniably play second seat to the two main female characters. Every woman on this show is kickass, even the guest stars. Some of them are physically tough, some of them are wily and clever, (and Nikita is undeniably both), and some of them are just women in way over their head but doing the best they can anyways, and I love that.

Nikita, our heroine.
Alex, her side-kick/mentoree/best friend/(girlfriend).
Jaden, whose motivations for being a fierce bitch are complex and understandable.
Amanda, who scares the shit out of me.
Guest star Jill, so out of her depth and yet determined to figure out what the hell is going on.
Guest star Sarah, who got the raw end of the deal.
Miss Mary Miracle, a business woman and wedding planner and unwilling pawn of Division. I can't pinpoint specifically why, but I love her.
The relationships of the women are complex and ongoing and changing, and an utter joy to watch. Every episode passes the Bechdel test, I believe.
And random awesomeness, on behalf of Amanda and Nikita. (She hangs out on roofs with laptops, scheming and waiting to blow up the power. How can you NOT love her?)
Nikita is a show worth watching for it's women alone, even if the other interactions, the storyline, and the driving motivations of our characters and their backstories weren't also fascinating.

Date: 2011-02-14 02:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, Jaden's my only beef with the show. I mean - I totally get her motivations, and from her perspective, everything she's doing is reasonable. I just wish the show would be a little more sympathetic to her.
