Apr. 25th, 2009 01:44 pmSo yesterday I ended up crying to my mum about various things for half an hour, which was actually really nice and helped loads. It was a mixture of one of my best friends being a jerk over nothing and my teachers thinking it's fine to laugh at me for getting mad at this one boy whenever he's an idiot (look, he used to frequently say things like 'I hope someone kills Obama' or 'I want to snipe Obama' and none of the teachers did anything, and now he adds comments like 'Ah, Betsy, my bestest friend' and is purposely even more annoying to me and the teachers think it's funny) and also the fact that I know all these amazing Christian guys and if I ever wanted to date them I couldn't because of my current not-a-Christian status. Also just the stress and the not-actually-learning-anything-in-school (THIS IS A BAD THING, OKAY?) and too many PEOPLE.
This is only exacerbated by the fact that all three of my sisters are hardly available. Mary's in... Utah, and every other week is in the field without a cell phone and having a lot of her own problems, Esther's practically inaccessible because she's always working/at school/with Matt-her-boyfriend, and Katherine (with horrible timing) is finally hitting hormone-land and flipping out half the time.
SO. GUYS. I need prompts for my various WIP's that are original fiction, because honestly I do not know these characters. SO. Here are characters!
Various Wall-fics that want to be written
Sidonie - 16 year old girl living on the Wall.
Flavian - her brother, around 21, commander of 20 horse, one of only three sections on the wall
Adrian - a centaur, Flavian's second-in-command
Albion - 45-year-old Commander of the Wall, born and raised in Britain, is planning to stay behind when the Romans pull out
Tiresius- wizard, part of the command section on the Wall, answers only to Albion (specify age when prompting, I know his basic story from around 18-60)
Flynn - a wizard, was onceu Tiresius' best friend, died when they were both 17
Risa - Tiresius' wife. He was ordered to marry her as part of political manuevering (complicated). Sharp-witted but gentle and kind, and is now the only one who can bring out what is left of Tiresius' conscience
Maris - Tiresius' daughter, born when he was 30
At the First Glimpse of Thunder
Cedric, Holland, and Sebastian Monroe (boy, girl, boy) - 18, 17, & 15
Cecilia Bardsley - 14, their next-door neighbor
Adam Bardsley - 20, Cecilia's brother, currently a Lieutenant in the Homeland Navy
So basically, give me any two (or three) of these characters (crossovers between the two different places are absolutely fine) and a word or phrase. An age if you have Tiresius in it would be great. So yeah! Prompt away? Pretty please?
ETA: I've done two, would love more! Also, OMG TENSES. DANG IT. I CANNOT KEEP THEM STRAIGHT. *dies* If you spot tense mess-ups in my fics for your prompts, there's a 99% chance I spotted it within five minutes after posting it. Sorry!
Much love to everyone giving me prompts!
ETA THE SECOND: Cecilia has an older brother. Huh. *eyes charries* Can't you guys EVER tell me this at a reasonable time?

Date: 2009-04-25 06:26 pm (UTC)XD It's my original fic, and even if you just did two character names and some random word (red, moon, hugs, ANYTHING) I'd adore it. But I know what you mean, I still find it hard to give prompts sometime.

Albion and Risa discuss the Wall and Britain
Date: 2009-04-25 07:49 pm (UTC)Albion was standing on the far edge of the Wall watching the Pict hills when Risa stepped up beside him.
"Have you heard from him yet?" she asked. Albion shook his head.
"First contact isn't due until tomorrow morning, you know that," he reminds her gently, noting her hands clasped over her swelling belly. "You shouldn't worry, this isn't a difficult mission, Risa." She stood silent for a long moment, and then shook her head slowly.
"The Wall is worried," she said. "All Britain can feel it. Nothing is simple anymore." Her knuckles were white, and Albion felt a shiver up his spine. Risa was descended from the Old Magic of Britain, the same Old Magic that guarded the Wall. "The Romans are pulling out soon, aren't they?" Risa asked after another short silence. Albion bit his lip.
"I expect the orders any day now," he admitted.
"Will Britain be able to stand alone?" Risa said, her eyes fixed on the rolling Pictish hills her husband had walked into just that morning.
"If she is together, I think it is possible," Albion said.
"But we are not together," Risa said. "Picts, Brits, Romans staying behind, Irish, the odd criminal running from law - can you unite them? Could anyone unite them?"
"I don't know," Albion said softly. Dusk was falling, and they turned, straining their eyes for the first flicker of light from the Harbor Beacon. It comes, and they both shift, relaxing slightly.
"Britain's lights must not go out," Albion said, and Risa shook her head, dark hair falling in coils down her back.
"May the Lady will it so," she says. "Will you see me home?" He took her arm, and they went down the steps together, the Harbor Beacon's glow lighting their path.
sebastian and cecilia - fascination
Date: 2009-04-25 09:17 pm (UTC)Cecilia dangles her legs over the cliff edge, watching the boats in the harbor below as men swarm over them, made tiny by the distance.
"A bit early to be on the cliffs, isn't it?" Sebastian says behind her, and she can feel her throat tightening. She looks away, watching the ships studiously. Even from up here she can make out the Dauntless.
Sebastian's boats scrape on the gravel as he carefully sits down, and she can imagine him leaning back from the edge cautiously, watching it with wary eyes. He's never liked the cliffs, but he's gotten used to them. Mostly that's due to her fascination with them - she's dragged him and his siblings up here more than once.
"Celia?" he says softly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, fine," she says, her tone a sad attempt at nonchalance.
"No you aren't," he says. "It's not me leaving, is it?" His tone is light and teasing, and she can tell he's trying to brighten her mood. "You'd be the only one, if that's it," he adds, and she can practically feel his eyes burning through her head. It's times like this when she curses even his slight empathic abilities.
"I bet you'll love the Homeland," she says, turning to face him. The wide smile she'd fixed on her face is wiped away as she realizes her mistake. He'd leaned in closer while trying to figure out what was wrong, and now her face is only an inch or two from his. She can feel her breath hitching in her throat as Seb's concerned green eyes look into her own gray eyes.
He is frowning now, and she pushes back from the edge and stood up, turning to walk away. Behind her she can hear Sebastian scooching back and standing up to follow her, and her feet slow against her will.
"Damn, you are good at hiding your feelings," Sebastian breathes into her ear, a hint of admiration in his voice, and when she spins around wildly he kisses her, tangling his hands in her hair. They break apart for a moment, and she can hear her own breathless laughter like a stranger's as she leans forward and kisses him back.

Date: 2009-04-25 10:14 pm (UTC)It's the night Cecilia comes out (unofficially, of course - she can't really come out unless she's in the Homeland) and even at a ball thrown just for her she's managed to vanish.
Sebastian sighs and sidles out the door, heading for the Bardsley's garden. She is there of course, just 'taking a little breather' as always before heading back into the crush of bodies and heat. He doesn't blame her - tonight has been unusually difficult to get through, and he hasn't enjoyed watching her flocked with men.
So instead of saying anything or trying to drag her back in, he sits down next to her on the bench. She sighs and rests her head on his shoulder, and he gives her a bemused glance.
"How much wine have you drunk, Celia?" he asks, and she looks up at him, blinking wide-eyed. The blood rushes to his face and he can feel his heart beating abnormally loudly, and instinctively he moves his head away, barely able to hear her laughing answer ('not enough, your face is still ugly'). He hasn't been this close to her in almost a year - they've grown more distance as they've grown up and as he gained a reputation for being a dashing player.
It's only by sheer force of will that he can keep his feelings in check and not let them show on his face, but a strong will is something he's always had. He stands up and offers her his hand, suddenly very aware of the way her pulse is beating against the base of his thumb.
"Come on, we should head back in," he says, and his tone is light and teasing, exactly the way he wanted it. "They're probably missing you by now - you are the belle of the ball, after all." She wraps her hand more tightly around his, leaning against him a bit, and he can smell the jasmine fragrance on the air that is distinctively hers and always has been, ever since she was three and starting wearing the flowers in her hair. He is all too aware of how her lips would taste of wine, and so he turns and leads her inside, sitting down with a small shake of his head and a smile when she asks him to take this waltz with her.
He doesn't dance the rest of the night, instead finding a girl who's more than happy to kiss him in the corridors.
Her lips taste of wine, but she doesn't smell of jasmine.
(Oh, Sebastian. You have such a low opinion of yourself, and it's not warranted at all. *pats Seb*)

Date: 2009-04-26 12:26 am (UTC)"It's none of your business who I kiss!" Sebastian snaps, and Holland scowls at him.
"I'm your older sister, of course it is!" she snaps back, and sticks her finger practically in his face. "You're getting a reputation, and it's not a good one. Father will hear of it soon, you know he will! Why can't you be more like Cedric?"
"Cedric's perfect," Sebastian says, a hint of bitterness in his voice. "Why should I even try?"
"You could make an effort!" Holland says, brandishing her finger. He winces and leans backward.
"Are you done now?" Sebastian says. "I have maids to seduce." Holland's mouth opens and then she closes it.
"You're hopeless," she says. "Just remember it's not my fault when father calls you in for another talk in his study." Sebastian shrugs, his hands in his pockets.
"I've dealt with it before," he says.
"I know," Holland says, and sighs. "Oh, Seb, I'm worried for you. I'm leaving soon. I want to know that you won't be charming your way through the ranks of maidens and generally being a never-do-well."
"That's generally what I am," Seb points out, but the rancor is gone from his voice, and his jaunty smile droops a little.
"You could be so much more," Holland sighs, and pulls him into a hug. "You never even talk to Celia anymore, and the two of you used to be such good friends." Sebastian stiffens.
"She's busy, you know," he says as Holland pulls back and grips his shoulders, studying his face. "She came out a few months ago, you know." He makes the words more careless than he should have - Holland knows him well, and she bites her lip.
"You've argued, haven't you?" she says.
"In a way," Sebastian says with a shrug, and ducks under her arms. "Come on, let's go the Bay. They're flying the 'ship sighted' pennant."
"All right then," Holland acquiesces, and follows him out as he grabs her hand.

Date: 2009-04-26 01:50 am (UTC)sidonie and adrian - burns
Date: 2009-04-26 02:31 am (UTC)He doesn't halt until they're in the cover of the woods, where Sidonie slides off, sobbing into his side.
"It's going to be all right," Adrian says, his voice seeming calm and impassive as he cleans his sword and sheathes it.
"What about Flavian?" Sidonie says, looking up in protest. "He won't be all right, will he?" Adrian doesn't say anything for a long moment.
"The Cavalry may yet be able to disengage," he says finally.
"What if they don't?"
"Then I get you somewhere safe and try to meet up with Albion's army and report to him."
There is a crackle heard all the way from their vantage point as one of the houses on this side of the Wall catches on fire. Sidonie catches her breath and turns away, closing her eyes.
"The Wall burns," Adrian says, and his smooth demeanor has been jolted. Even Sidonie can hear the anguish in his voice, and she feels a muted sob break out. "Come on then," Adrian says, his voice dead as he gives her a hand onto his back.
He turns and begins to canter off, Sidonie turning to watch the flames until the trees of the forest hide them from her.

NEW PROMPT:
Cecilia, Sebastian, Seb's Dad, slippers.

Date: 2009-04-26 04:00 am (UTC)Cecilia, Sebastian, Seb's Dad, slippers.
Date: 2009-04-26 04:18 am (UTC)"No, sir," he says, though he can think of a few things he could reasonably have gotten called in for and several dozen reasons his dad could make up to call him in for.
"Your grades from Secondary School came in yesterday." Sebastian frowns for a moment.
"Sir, I was under the impression that I was maintaining good grades," he says, the V in his forehead deepening. Mentally, he ticks off his grades. Head of the class in History, Algebra and English. The lowest he's placed is sixth in Art, with a second place in Latin and a fifth in Greek.
"You should be heading the class in all your subjects," his father says coldly, not even looking up from his paperwork. "I expect no less of a child of mine." Sebastian's mouth twitches slightly, but he doesn't say anything. "Is that understood, Sebastian?" his father says, his voice irritated as he finally looks up.
"Yes, sir," Sebastian says. His father leans back to his papers, dismissing Sebastian with a wave, and the boy walks out ramrod-straight, through the door and down the hallway until he reaches the garden. Leaning against the Greco-design pillar, he stares into the foliage, carefully schooling his expression until he has the icy calmness he's aiming for.
Taking a deep breath, he lets his mask slide down and then stands up.
"What are you doing out in the garden?" a light voice asks above him, and he turns to see Cecilia's slippers on the wall at his eye-level. He looks up and smiles guardedly at her.
"Oh, just the normal," he says. "Nothing, more or less." She sits down on the wall, dangling her feet, and smiles at him. He can feel the pressure of his pulse against his clenched fist as it speeds up.
"And how has your day been, Master Sebastian?" she says, and manages to make her voice just exactly the way his nanny's once had been. He can't help it - his smile widens, and she smiles back in delight. "There we are!" she says. "Come on with me to the cliffs?" He stiffens slightly, imagining being alone with her on the cliffs, and wets his lips nervously as his throat goes dry.
Wordlessly he shakes his head.
"I really should be studying," he says, and turns and walks inside, feeling his back go rigid again as he closes his eyes, navigating the halls blindly.
He's biting his lips, and by the time he gets to his room and throws himself on the bed in frustration he can taste blood in his mouth, copper and tangy.
He groans and rolls over and tries to ignore the thought of kissing Celia that refuses to leave now that it's been brought up.
"God damn it!" he bites out, flinging himself into a sitting position, and his shoulders slump as he buries his face in his hands.

Date: 2009-04-26 05:15 am (UTC)OLD-FASHIONED ROMAAAAANCE FTW
ALL FOR IT
Date: 2009-04-26 06:21 am (UTC)Sebastian is just coming out of the house's front door as Adam hurries up the steps, and he flashes him a broad grin.
"She's in the music room," Sebastian says, and keeps going, his jaunty walk unmistakable.
Adam manages to slow down his steps and walk through the house to the back where Holland's pianoforte rests. She's playing as he comes through the door, her back to him. It's 'Greensleeves,' the song she used to sing to him, and she's singing along to it quietly now. He pauses inside the door and listens as she sings the last verse, watching the slender curve of her neck as she bends over the keys.
"Greensleeves now farewell, adieu
God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy lover true
Come once again and love me."
He moves forward and joins in on the refrain, and if she is surprised, she doesn't show it, just smiles at him and improvises a rippling cascade of notes.
"Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight:
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my Lady Greensleeves."
As the song ends, she spins on the stool and stands up, and he scoops her up and twirls her around, her shriek of laughter bubbling up.
"Adam!" she says breathlessly. "We weren't expecting you until at least tomorrow."
"I called the winds to bring me home," he says, and kisses her, reveling in the scent of vanilla that has always floated around her. "I missed you," he whispers against her neck, and she stands on her tiptoes as he pulls back to kiss his forehead.
"Come," she says, twining her hand in his. "Tell me how the voyage went." She leans against his shoulder as they make their way to the couch and then nestles against him as he begins to tell her stories, interrupting himself often to kiss her again.
