Apr. 25th, 2009 01:44 pmSo yesterday I ended up crying to my mum about various things for half an hour, which was actually really nice and helped loads. It was a mixture of one of my best friends being a jerk over nothing and my teachers thinking it's fine to laugh at me for getting mad at this one boy whenever he's an idiot (look, he used to frequently say things like 'I hope someone kills Obama' or 'I want to snipe Obama' and none of the teachers did anything, and now he adds comments like 'Ah, Betsy, my bestest friend' and is purposely even more annoying to me and the teachers think it's funny) and also the fact that I know all these amazing Christian guys and if I ever wanted to date them I couldn't because of my current not-a-Christian status. Also just the stress and the not-actually-learning-anything-in-school (THIS IS A BAD THING, OKAY?) and too many PEOPLE.
This is only exacerbated by the fact that all three of my sisters are hardly available. Mary's in... Utah, and every other week is in the field without a cell phone and having a lot of her own problems, Esther's practically inaccessible because she's always working/at school/with Matt-her-boyfriend, and Katherine (with horrible timing) is finally hitting hormone-land and flipping out half the time.
SO. GUYS. I need prompts for my various WIP's that are original fiction, because honestly I do not know these characters. SO. Here are characters!
Various Wall-fics that want to be written
Sidonie - 16 year old girl living on the Wall.
Flavian - her brother, around 21, commander of 20 horse, one of only three sections on the wall
Adrian - a centaur, Flavian's second-in-command
Albion - 45-year-old Commander of the Wall, born and raised in Britain, is planning to stay behind when the Romans pull out
Tiresius- wizard, part of the command section on the Wall, answers only to Albion (specify age when prompting, I know his basic story from around 18-60)
Flynn - a wizard, was onceu Tiresius' best friend, died when they were both 17
Risa - Tiresius' wife. He was ordered to marry her as part of political manuevering (complicated). Sharp-witted but gentle and kind, and is now the only one who can bring out what is left of Tiresius' conscience
Maris - Tiresius' daughter, born when he was 30
At the First Glimpse of Thunder
Cedric, Holland, and Sebastian Monroe (boy, girl, boy) - 18, 17, & 15
Cecilia Bardsley - 14, their next-door neighbor
Adam Bardsley - 20, Cecilia's brother, currently a Lieutenant in the Homeland Navy
So basically, give me any two (or three) of these characters (crossovers between the two different places are absolutely fine) and a word or phrase. An age if you have Tiresius in it would be great. So yeah! Prompt away? Pretty please?
ETA: I've done two, would love more! Also, OMG TENSES. DANG IT. I CANNOT KEEP THEM STRAIGHT. *dies* If you spot tense mess-ups in my fics for your prompts, there's a 99% chance I spotted it within five minutes after posting it. Sorry!
Much love to everyone giving me prompts!
ETA THE SECOND: Cecilia has an older brother. Huh. *eyes charries* Can't you guys EVER tell me this at a reasonable time?

Date: 2009-04-26 05:40 pm (UTC)Sebastian is chewing on his lip on the other side of the cell, chained hands behind his head. He looks surprisingly calm, and Cedric has no idea how he's doing it.
"They'll call me in for questioning soon," Sebastian says, voice detached and almost clinical.
"What?" Cedric sits up and stares at his brother. "Why would they call you in?"
"They need information about Happenstance," Sebastian says, still staring at the ceiling. "And we're the ones with the most information. And they can't question you."
"Of course they'll question me first, I'm oldest, they'll think I know more about father's work and such." Sebastian shakes his head.
"They can't question you," he says doggedly. "You're a hostage. You're the one they're counting on to keep Father from 'misbehaving.' You know their methods are harsh - if they did that to you, they know they'd be practically asking Father to rebel."
"You're a hostage too," Cedric says, and Sebastian laughs.
"You didn't see Dad's letter," he says, and there is hurt lurking underneath his voice. "He made it very clear he doesn't care what happens to me. I've always known that - now they do too." Cedric opens his mouth and then closes it again as Sebastian nods his head a few times, still watching the ceiling, looking detached and cool. "So it'll be me they call in for questioning."
*
As it turns out, Sebastian's all too right. The guards come for him three hours later and march him away. He throws a reassuring smile over his shoulder to Cedric and then keeps walking, rigid-backed and stiff.
Cedric can do nothing but listen and wait, his stomach churning as he paces the cell. It feels like a forever of silence has passed when Sebastian starts screaming.
Five minutes later, Cedric is violently sick in the corner of the cell, tears running down his face.

Date: 2009-04-26 07:04 pm (UTC)I like being pestered when it involves my original fic! 'Cuz it's making me ever so ever so happy and the prompts are giving me tons of insight into the characters.

Date: 2009-04-26 09:03 pm (UTC)Dearest Holland,
I miss you already. I'm sure you'll laugh when you read this, because the pilot ship hasn't even left yet, but I do. I'm sending you all my love back home with the pilot, and if there's any left over you can give it to Celia.
Always yours,
Adam

Darling,
The tin man came to Happenstance yesterday. I know I never buy anything from him, but I remembered how much you love looking over all his stuff and I bought two cups. In my defense, they are quite adorable cups, with handles like half a heart. I'm saving them for when you come back.
I'll just slip this note in with my latest epistle and send it to you. My love always,
Holland

Holland,
We docked just yesterday in Geleden. I think you'd like it - it's not far from the Homeland, and the styles and customs are very similar even if the language is outlandish, but the people are so much more relaxed. Also, they serve the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted. It tastes just like your old nanny used to make it - do you remember drinking hot chocolate by the fire in winter?
The harbor will be freezing over soon, I'd imagine. It's been cold enough this year. If that's so, my heart, I won't be docking in Happenstance as we thought, but rather down further in Bellasay. If that's so, then I'll have to find a way to get to you. It won't be very hard, I'd imagine, not for someone as determined as me.
My love always,
Adam

Date: 2009-04-26 09:35 pm (UTC)Holland stands at the railing of the ship, staring overboard. She doesn't get seasick, but she's sure any minute now she'll be sick over the edge. It isn't the movement of the ship, but rather how Sebastian had looked for the few minutes she had gotten to see him before he and Cedric were shuffled downstairs to be hidden away until they were in Geleden waters.
"Are you all right, Holls?" Adam says behind her, and she turns and buries her face in his chest.
"How could they do that?" she sobs. "What kind of monster could torture a 17-year-old boy?" Adam shakes his head and holds her tighter.
"I don't know," he says, and they stand there until she manages to stop sobbing. Stepping back, she tilts her chin up.
"I need to go see him," she says, and Adam nods.
"You know where we put him," he says, and she smiles gratefully at him. It shows how much Adam understands her that he doesn't try to come with her, instead knowing that she knows this time with her family. "I don't think Cedric's gone more than two feet away from him this whole time," he adds with a soft smile, and then stands and watches her as she heads below deck towards the room they're keeping Sebastian and Cedric in.
Cedric is sitting in a chair by Sebastian's bed, watching his younger brother sleep, and he doesn't acknowledge Holland as she comes in with more than a look up and back down.
"How is he?" Holland asks, biting her lip as she comes closer, taking the seat next to Cedric. He shakes his head.
"Better than he was," he whispers. "He's lost a lot of blood, and he's got several ribs broken." Sebastian's face is pale, due to blood loss and losing his tan in the dungeon no doubt, and the stark contrast his dark hair provides is startling. She leans forward and brushes his hair out of his face.
"Will he be okay?" she says.
"I hope so," Cedric says, his knuckles white as he grips the side of the bed.
"And you?" Holland says quietly. "Don't blame yourself, Cedric."
"It should have been me," Cedric says, shaking his head as he stares at his brother's face. "Oh god, Holland, you weren't there. I could hear him screaming, and there was nothing I could do."
"Precisely," Holland says, fighting down the bile rising in her throat. "You couldn't have changed it. Neither of you deserved this." On the bed, Sebastian shifts and murmurs something, his eyes blinking open, and Holland smiles at him.
"Hey Holls," Sebastian says quietly. "Nice to see you again. Didn't think I would." Holland can feel something in her heart breaking, and she manages a thin smile, taking his hand gently in hers.
"Don't worry," she says. "We're family. We'll never leave you to them." He smiles back and then his eyes flutter back closed. She sits there for a long time with Cedric, holding Sebastian's hand as he sleeps.
When she finally gets up to go, she goes to the rail of the ship and throws up, then wipes her mouth and takes a deep breath, leaning over the railing and watching the horizon as the sun sets.

Date: 2009-04-26 09:59 pm (UTC)Awwww, now I want more of Cedric and Sebastian in prison. Or maybe later, when the three (four including Adam?) meet their dad again. And, mayhap, Cecilia? Hmm?
More Ced and Seb in prison
Date: 2009-04-26 11:00 pm (UTC)It feels like an eternity later when four guards come marching down the hallway, Sebastian between them, more or less carried by them. Cedric runs forward and growls impatiently as the chains on his wrist and foot snap, holding him back.
He can do nothing but watch as they come closer. Sebastian's eyes are barely open and he's not supporting himself at all. One of the guards opens the door to the cell and another shoves Sebastian in. Sebastian's legs crumple as he teeters alone for a moment and then he crashes to the floor in a heap and his eyes roll back and close.
The guards clamp the chains around Sebastian's wrist and ankle and then leave, one of them aiming a last kick at Sebastian's chest.
He's well and truly out when Cedric gets to him, but his pulse is there, if quicker and shallower than Cedric would like.
"Thank god for healer training," Cedric murmurs, and quickly drags over a bucket of water and all three blankets in the cell, forming a bed for Sebastian. His little brother's shirt is covered in patches of dry blood and completely useless, so Cedric takes it off and tries to keep the bile in his throat from coming up at the sight of the bruises and cuts that cover Sebastian's chest and back.
Sebastian comes to a few minutes later while Cedric's cleaning and binding his wounds.
"Hey, Ced," he slurs, and then rolls over onto his side and spits out a mouthful of blood and something that may or may not be tooth. Cedric curses and supports his brother's head as he leans back against the blankets. When he takes his fingers away, they're sticky with blood.
"Oh, god," Cedric whispers. "Oh, Seb, Seb, I'm so sorry." The corners of Seb's mouth twitch in what's probably meant to be a smile, and he grabs Cedric's hand, squeezing it tightly.
"Don't worry," he says. "They won't get me." He makes Cedric meet his gaze, and his green eyes have cleared, strong and vibrant. "I'll be fine," he says, and his mouth obeys his will this time, curving upwards in a smile.
Re: More Ced and Seb in prison
Date: 2009-04-26 11:09 pm (UTC)You have officially made me tear up. That's a good thing.
Hmm...how about, like I said before, when they (Ced, Holl (+ Adam), and Seb) meet their dad and Celia again?
Coming home
Date: 2009-04-27 12:23 am (UTC)Sebastian is standing by the rail as they come in through the harbor, sails open to the wind as they slip between the cliffs and the rocks, and Holland watches him with quiet content. He's grown taller than her at some point, and it's even more obvious now that he stands so straight and sure.
"Ready to come home?" she asks him, moving up next to him, and he turns and smiles down at her. Even in the two weeks of the journey that he's been allowed on the deck he's regained some of his tan, and his color is back. You could only tell the agony he'd been through if you knew what to look for.
"Definitely," he says, and she finds herself wondering again when he grew so tall. Cedric comes up behind them, standing shoulder to shoulder with Sebastian. They're near on the same height, Cedric just an inch or so taller, and Holland regards her brothers fondly.
Sebastian winces in pain as he shifts his position, and then says very quietly, "Don't tell anyone."
"Tell them what?" Cedric says, turning with a startled air.
"What happened," Sebastian says. "I don't want them to worry about me."
"All right," Holland says, noting how Sebastian's knuckles have gone white as he clenches onto the rail.
"And especially don't tell Celia," he says. "If anyone tells her, it's going to be me."
"I think I'd prefer it that way too," Adam says, coming up behind Holland and sliding his arms around her waist.
"Thanks," Sebastian says, and then turns his attention back to the rapidly approaching shore.
*
When the gangplank is down, he and Cedric are the first to descend, arms slung around each other's shoulders. Unless they're looking closely, no one would be able to tell that most of Sebastian's weight is being carried by Cedric.
As they reach the bottom, the crowd breaks into cheers, and Celia darts out of the crowd and buries herself into Sebastian's arms. The flash of pain is followed by joy as he hides his face in her hair.
"Cedric," Mr. Monroe says, looking relieved and thrilled as he embraces his son. "Wonderful to have you back with us." Sebastian and Celia start moving away, towards the crowd, and Sebastian's father says, a bit gruffly, "So you made it too, then?"
"No thanks to you," Sebastian says coolly, and keeps moving without even a second look back at his father. The crowd parts for him and Celia and they vanish into it.
"How dare he," Mr. Monroe says, and Cedric shakes his head.
"The only thing he owes you is a lot of pain," he says, and turns away to join Holland and Adam as they come down the gangplank. "Come on," he adds as they pass his father. "Let's go celebrate."
Re: Coming home
Date: 2009-04-27 12:37 am (UTC)Also, the romance. 'Tis very sweet.
I greatly dislike this Mr. Monroe. Greatly. :\
But...either way, I am working on your prompt, I just need to go shower and study for bio first. I'll finish it during a study break. *promises*
But, as for other prompts, hmmm....I want more of Ced and Seb. Not necessarily in prison, just more of them. Prompt word = draw.

Date: 2009-04-27 01:05 am (UTC)SEB/CELIA WOOT.
I do toooo. I do not like Mr. Monroe at all! Well, okay, I can sympathize with his reasons a bit, because I do know them and though they're biased and unfair, at least they have some basis. BUT I STILL HATE HIM. *eyes* Also, I need to remember that they do have a mother. I think.
It's okay, I can be patient. I know, I know, SHOCKER. :P But yeah, I understand school. :/ And my mom is sending me to bed soon, really early because, y'know, I didn't get much sleep last night. *shifty*)
Cedric paces, trying his best to ignore the chain that clanks it's way across the cell behind him like a mocking shadow. They’ve been down here for two weeks, and three times the guards have marched Sebastian down the hall to gods know where, bringing him back bruised and bloody and bearing a light of triumph in his eyes. It’s been three days since the last time, and Cedric’s sure that they’ll be here any minute now.
“I can’t take it anymore,” he says, collapsing onto his cot. Sebastian looks up from where he’s sitting on the floor, doing something with pieces of straw.
“Mmm?” he says absent-mindedly as he returns his attention to the floor.
“The waiting,” Cedric says in frustration, and gets up and starts pacing again. As he comes near Sebastian, the younger man grabs him by the wrist and drags him down to sit next to him.
“It’s amazing what you can do with pieces of straw when you have lots of idle time on your hands,” he says, sounding almost amused, and Cedric stares at the floor in front of his brother. Somehow, using only straw pieces of varying shapes and sizes, Sebastian has managed to draw a picture on the floor.
“That’s Holland and Adam, isn’t it?” he says, pointing to two small figures standing together, and Sebastian nods.
“We’re over here,” he says with a grin, and sure enough there’s a figure easily recognizable as Cedric (though he couldn’t have said how) standing on the other side of Holland, with Sebastian standing nearby, his arm wrapped around a smaller figure.
“Celia?” Cedric guesses, and Sebastian nods with a wistful smile. For a long moment they both look at the drawing on the floor together. Then the door opens, and the guards come in. They haul Sebastian up, unchaining him from the wall, and as he struggles to stand on his own the various sets of feet scuff away the drawing on the floor as Cedric watches.
That night, instead of being sick in the corner as he has been the last three, Cedric patiently draws pictures in the hay, his jaw set heavily firm as he places each piece of straw just so.

Date: 2009-04-27 02:32 am (UTC)Awwwww. I am loving ALL of these Ced & Seb in prison drabbles. They're so heartbreaking but so amazing at the same time. :)
Also, throwing up a lot can't be good for Ced. :\
Hmmm....another prompt? How about...Sebastian telling Cecilia about the whole prison thing?
