I'm somewhere between laughing hysterically and being kind of shocked. We were playing baseball, and Aidan did something to his left ankle, bad enough to make him feel sick and not be able to walk on it. And we're talking Aidan, here. This guy is nowhere near a wuss by any definition of the word - he kayaks in western New Zealand on Level 5's (he kayaked here once or twice, and he said our Level 5's here are more like Level 3's or maybe 4's in N.Z.), mountain bikes lots, etc. etc. He's used to injury. So, in short, whatever happened isn't good.

Which is why I'm currently sitting at home hoping someone will call already and tell me what's going on (they took him to the emergency room).

ETA: They're home! It's just a sprain, thank goodness, but apparently not one of those tiny ones. A lot of his discomfort came from the heat (N. Z. was 40 degrees F when he left) and such.

Annnnd writing stuff -

Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change -- something tiny or big -- and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story

You guys know where my stuff is (fanfiction: masterlist tag). Etc. etc.

They mingle among the crowd, and Hermione has never felt more alone than she does now as people recognize her, shake her hand and say thank you. Things still finally as people mount the platform, and Harry steps forward to the podium.

His speech is short and quick, and Hermione doesn't listen very much. She can guess what he's saying - words like 'sacrifice' and 'bravery' and 'honor', words Hermione still isn't sure she knows the meaning of.

She finds Padma again afterwards, and hides with her under the willows by the lake as people find names they know on the monument. She can't hear them from here, but she can see the tears on their faces as they turn away.

"So was it worth it?" she asks abruptly, and Padma nods slowly.

"Yeah," she says. "It was worth it." Standing up, Padma offers a hand to Hermione, and after she gets up they walk together to the memorial, walking silently among the others. They find Fred's name, and Lavender's, and then finally Parvati's. Padma brushes her fingers against it, soft and gentle, and then they turn and walk away to where Harry and Ron and Ginny and George are waiting for them, their hugs warm and comforting.

"Want to go with us to the pub?" Harry says, and Hermione smiles.

"Sure. Padma?"

"Yeah," Padma says, and they all walk off together.

and then there is graduation again!

That is just lovely. It works nicely, but I'm glad it wasn't in the original.
