Watched Criminal Minds 5x13, "Risky Business." oh, how my show delivers! stereotypes? ha! we don't believe in those. ;) JJ! omggg, JJ. the thing about how amazing this show is is that this case is personal for JJ. the entire team knows it. but because this is Criminal Minds and not other cop shows, the only way this affects the case is that JJ makes one tiny slip-up (one word!) and that's enough to tell viewers who know JJ and that JJ never ever slips up that she really has been pushed off her balance by it. but at the same time it's not affecting her ability to do her job well beyond that one minor slipup. They don't have to have the people shoving things around and doing illegal things to show that it's affecting them personally. and that conversation at the end, with her and Hotch. oh, fabulous. Hotch is slowly healing, and his family is helping, but quietly. it's wonderful.

Also, Garcia love! she was fantastic in this episode, completely fantastic. and of course she knits! and that gratuitous Go reference, all the way back to the freakin' PIlot. (also, Reid cheats at poker. this is canonical.) that whole sequence there, the nice poking fun at Reid because they're a family and they can in fact do that, and Reid grinning because he's comfortable with it - fabulous. also that little Prentiss being like 'AGH STOP BEING SO SMART.' because that is totally a believable reaction. :P

one last note: Reid talking about how Jeremy had died made me wince really, really hard. because that isn't theoretical knowledge, there. Reid knows exactly what it feels like, he choked to death in Revelations. and he was back to using impersonal pronouns and distancing himself from like he did with torture in 100. it's fantastic that he can talk about what, effectively, is the details of his own death, without freaking out, but also makes me go aghhhh REID. he's such a grownup now!

I also watched most of Supernatural 5x11, "Sam, Interrupted." I dunno, it was okay. I wasn't in a very effective SPN-watching mood. I need to be feeling fine and happy, and I'm feeling more reclusive and worried. I think I'm going to have to rewatch it sometime - parts of it were hilarious, and parts of it were really, really interesting, and I want to watch them and be able to be interested and have thinky thoughts. Which I can't do right now.

And lastly! I used the last few remaining days of holiday (no homework until yesterday) to watch all eight episodes of White Collar, which has also been recommended to me. And it is indeed glorious, because Neal Caffrey is a shiney shiney thing of beauty, and the OT3 is quite an OT3 (El, I ADORE you!), and the latest episode was fantastic and the one before that was fabulous too (OUT OF A JUDGE'S WINDOW). so this goes on my list of shows to watch. (White Collar. Criminal Minds. Supernatural. huhhh. this is beginning to seem like A Type. and I don't even like most cop shows! apparently just very specific cop shows. I can't get enough interest in Numb3rs to watch it consistently, or, uh, any other cop show I've been told to watch except for The Unusuals.)

oh yeah! I watched two episodes of Bones at one point over the holiday. I... I don't know, you guys. I want to like it, I really do. And Temperance is really awesome some of the time, and Booth is awesome too (Boreanaz! that man can act), but something is missing, and I had lots and lots of problems with how unprofessional Temperance is, and how flip-floppy Booth's characterization was in the Pilot. I don't know. I have been told it just keeps getting better, but unfortunately we're now at a point where soon I won't have time to keep watching. So! if I'm to keep watching Bones, I'm going to need some really good Season 1 episodes to check out. Bones fans! what are the best/most necessary Season 1 episodes?

I treat Bones like crackfic. It's not a very "serious" show (despite the nominal subject matter) and everything about it either starts off as crack or descends into crack at some point. I love it, no question, it's just not a rigorous procedural or hard-hitting or anything. I watch it mainly for the character interactions/lulz. :3

see, these are my thoughts! but I generally want something a little bit... more - out of my shows, you know? all three of the shows I'm currently watching consistently deliver on fascinating meta or glorious characterization or lots of thinky thoughts. I think perhaps I shall keep watching Bones, but only when I have plenty of time and am not simply procrastinating.

I feel like Bones is shiny and hot to make up for lack of substance, but who am I to talk about insubstantial TV shows. It's okay I guess, and occasionally I'd put on a random episode in the background while I work, but otherwise meh.

hmm, yes, this is the feel I am getting off of it so far. I think I'll keep watching, but only when I actually have the time. it would be better for my schoolwork, too! (man, my schoolwork SUFFERED when I found Avatar.)

I watch Bones to crib from Angela's wardrobe. Trufax. It's sort of like X-Files lite.

from what I have seen of Angela, this is probably a totally valid reason to watch it. :D

You should really give Bones a few more episodes to level out. Everyone's character gets more consistent once the writers sort of settle in. And Boreanaz is phenomenal as Booth.

I am going to, I think. it'll just have to be times when I actually have the time, not when I want to procrastinate. because Booth! he's so fabulous. and there are moments when I just want to tuck Temperance in my pocket and keep here there FOREVER. even in just two episodes. :P

It does take a while for the characters to settle in, but once they do omg. Seasons 2 and 3 I was all over. Season 1, there is a good arc starting with The Man on Death Row (ep 7). The Christmas episode (The Man in the Fallout Shelter, 9) is so much fun and we get to see characters' families and stuff :D the first few eps are okay but I was reading the list of the rest and I remember really enjoying them. Then again, I watched them all marathon-style, so I was pretty focused on characters more than plot. Season 2 just has some awesome, awesome things going on - the best ever is 2.09, Two Aliens in a Spaceship. BEST EVER. ever.
so yeah, it's a light show, that is sometimes really exciting I think, and other times just like, Oh, okay, another mystery to solve for the team.
Bones' anthropology-fail is what bugs me the most. When she's like, I think this because I'm rational! WRONG, that is not rational right there! Or when she so obviously values and understands other cultures' practices and values more than contemporary Western and American.

A Man on Death Row! I shall skip forward to that, then. :D I'd be watching it all marathon-style too, and I'm actually not that interested in the plot, so long as it makes sense and isn't too outlandish. :P I watch all my shows for the characters.

I'm going to keep watching, just restrict myself to only watching at times when I actually have the time. right now, I think mostly I'll be watching for Booth, and for the occasional moments when Temperance makes me grin in joy and happiness.

I even like Bones plot, too, because it's intense enough to absorb and entertain me, but also with plenty of humor and such lovable characters. The amount of love I harbor for Zack and Hodgins is absurd and wonderful. Also for Booth, mainly his smile. THAT SMILE OMG. he should win a prize for that. who am I kidding I love them ALL SO MUCH.

Did you read the promo for the next SPN? Apparently, Sam swaps bodies with some dork instead of with Dean. This disappoints me so much T_T
(...but that may just be the teaser and they're keeping the best under wraps, so we'll see.)

Heh, during Angel, some people were like "David Boreanaz is a wooden/boring/shit" actor, and then Bones was like "NO".

I actually am pretty bad at keeping track of spoilers for SPN. I don't follow any SPN coms and the only part of fandom I'm in is that I talk about it with my f-list. :D but it does sound interesting!

Boreanaz has always been one of my favorites - he puts a LOT of expression into really small looks and body language, and his delivery is fantastic too.
