guys. guys.
one of the reasons I'd always been a little bit wary of comics was because I wasn't sure I'd appreciate how they treated women, but Stephanie Brown just rapidly became one of my favorite characters ever. I haven't read her comics as Spoiler and Robin (partially because I know tragic things happen to her in them and that would make me horribly sad), but her run as Batgirl has basically been one long moment of total awesome.
THINGS ABOUT STEPHANIE: ayries explanation of why she loves her on Tumblr, plus a little add-on from me. It addresses what I love most about Stephanie - she's not in this for the glory, or for revenge - she's in it for the people she helps, entirely, and she's here to bring hope to a line of work most of the Batfamily brings a gloom and despair attitude to. She never loses her smile. She may want others to approve of her, but their disapproval doesn't stop her from doing what she feels is her calling. She's still in love with Tim Drake, but when he comes back she realizes that starting up their relationship again would be about as far from healthy as it gets and tells him so, bluntly.
THESE PAGES. long short short, Damian Wayne, the current Robin, is a 10-year-old raised to be an assassin. Upon Stephanie working with him on a mission which makes her realize a) how desperate he is for Batman's approval and b) that he doesn't know how to play, she takes him to a MOON BOUNCE. read it!
this happens during an earlier team-up with Robin and Batman:

also I made icons! and a softer world remix thing!

(and may have her entire run so far available to me. um. you know.)

I've done a little bit of reading, and I've been thinking that it is kind of not good that they replaced an Asian superheroine with, y'know, blue-eyed blonde-haired Stephanie. I really hope Cassandra gets her own identity and her own series soon, because I would read it SO HARD. I've only seen a tiny bit of her in Red Robin but I enjoyed it, and I love everything I've heard about her.

Date: 2011-03-28 10:45 pm (UTC)Yes please! You have a zipping program, right?
Yeah - I read about that. The only Asian American superheroine in the Batfamily! Her backstory sounds pretty messy, but if they can bring back Stephanie from apparently dying, surely there's more they can do.

Date: 2011-03-29 12:37 am (UTC)Cassandra's still around, she just quit being Batgirl (apparently at least somewhat on orders from Bruce - Stephanie needed it at that point more than Cassandra did, and he also needed Cassandra as an anonymous agent). She was most recently seen in Red Robin - Tim visits her where she's being an anonymous vigilante in Hong Kong and scaring the people she rescues to death, and those like five pages of her made me want her to come back. They do appear to be dropping hints that they'll be picking her story up again soon, which I'm definitely crossing my fingers for. Tim gave her a batsuit and told her to always remember she has family. (I've sworn I won't pick up any new series because I'm currently following Batman & Robin, Red Robin, and Batgirl, but I'm making exceptions for any series starring Cassandra and/or Batwoman. Or maybe Question.)

Date: 2011-03-29 02:55 am (UTC)Yes indeed! I got most of that, though the last bit with Tim giving her the batsuit and familyyy I did not know! Nice! And your taste is excellent. :D

Date: 2011-03-30 04:08 am (UTC)Hamster didn't work, but apparently I can just... automatically make zipped folders on my laptop? I had no idea. This is EXCITING. Anyways. Here Batgirl 001-019. I also stuck in the two parts of Battle for the Cowl that had Stephanie in them - they both come before her Batgirl series. I put in Red Robin #10, which is the continuation of Batgirl #8 and has her guest-starring in the Red Robin series. Plus her issue of Bruce Wayne - The Road Home.
And for kicks, here's the issue of Red Robin that has Cassandra. She's in the first few pages. (I warn you, if you don't stop me I will shove all of Batman and Robin and Red Robin on you too. it's a disease, okay.)
And Batwoman is in Batman Inc. Issue #4 and soon more, I believe. So that's pretty awesome. :D And apparently Batgirl is due to show up in the current Supergirl arc, along with Robin?

If it's a disease I don't want the cure! :D If you want to share them, I will read them enthusiastically!

Date: 2011-03-31 11:54 pm (UTC)Here's 1-16 of Batman and Robin.
And here's a reliable torrent link someone gave me of a ridiculous amount of Batgirl adventures, including a lot of old Barbara Gordon ones and a lot of Cassandra Cain ones.
Enjoy! Feel free to flail at me! I am ALL for flailing with someone over this newly discovered treasure trove.
