Someone wrote me a lovely Ramandu's Island fic for the Narnia Fic Exchange, This is not an ending. I've been bad and neglectful and am only now commenting on it, but I really enjoyed it.

Secret Virtues (the Blackmail and Bars Remix)
Highlander: The Series. Amanda, Methos. Pretty much gen. 1,003 words.

Amanda and Methos are definitely my favorite two characters from Highlander, and I love their interactions in canon, so this was quite fun to write. It's a little bit silly. :P

I'm currently speeding through reading the Alex Rider series. (The school library has all of them but the second.) You guys, the level of psychological damage this kid is carrying after just four books is INSANE. I shudder to think of how totally broken he's going to be after 8.

Communication levels here where I work: MINIMAL. We had a meeting three weeks after I got here where we were finally given a list of specific instructions for our jobs. Yeah. Before that we'd just been doing whatever we'd been told to do and not really knowing what we were supposed to do. I know. There was something on the list of specific duties about "checking the dorms every 30 minutes". I asked about it because I'd never been told to do that or seen anyone do that (including the two people telling me to do it), and they both looked at me and were like "Oh, nobody's told you that?" ... NO, okay, no, because nobody tells anybody anything in this hostel!

But mostly work is going okay. I may be coming down with chicken pox? Aidan had shingles and I've been feeling kind of bad the past few days. Tomorrow I have all day off so I'm going to sleep a lot and drink a lot of water and hopefully feel better. (It probably hasn't helped that my stomach has once again hit the "oh dear god this food is awful" spot and can't take most of it. I'll have to go to the grocery store today after lunch and see if I can find something decent to eat.)

Downloading takes so long on this connection.

I sort of love being pretty independent. :D And having money regularly. (Though I am trying to avoid spending most of it. My pay goes straight through to my card, and I try to only use the cash I get from vacuuming a lady's house on Friday's. :D)

I'm writing! I feel really happy about that. I think I'm going to do a "works in progress" meme sometime soon, because I keep fluttering between them and I could use the incentive to finish them. (It's kind of a bizarre list.)

I feel like doing memes okay. I also feel like talking about couples I love deeply, or find interesting, etc. etc. I don't wanna go to sleep or leave the internet, whyyyyyyy.

Listed below are descriptions of some of the fictional couples that I ship. With the vagueness and obscurity, try to guess the people listed in the comments.

Most of these are canon ships, but there are a couple fanon and one crack crossover ship.

So I'm trying desperately to finish, edit and submit my fic for the Narnia Fic Exchange this weekend, before Mary and Aidan get here. (OMG SO EXCITED)

Could I get some beta volunteers? The only bit you'd need to know is Voyage of the Dawn Treader, primarily bookverse. It's about 1,400 words right now, and it'll probably wind up around 2,000, maybe a little bit over. I'm not sure right now. It's trying to overshoot the limits I have. *eyes it* I don't have much time, so I doubt it'll get much longer than 2,000 words.

I was rewatching Half Blood Prince, which always gives me an urge to write an epic post-DH fic about Malfoy and his family recovering and moving on. I just have a lot of Feelings about Narcissa and Malfoy, okay! A LOT OF FEELINGS. (Lucius I don't have much sympathy for, really.) I'm just pretty sure someone has done it better, so the few sentences I wrote before I was like "Betsy shut up and write NFE" are stuck in limbo with the Prentiss-in-hiding fic and Hardy-Boys-in-trouble fic.

I want to get those done, hmmm. I think next year for Yuletide I'll see if I can sign up with the Hardy Boys.

cannot wait to see Deathly Hallow Part II. They were never as huge a part of my childhood as they were of so many people's, but everything I hear says it's a fantastic movie, and I think I'd definitely regret it if I didn't see it in theaters.

So I'm planning on getting paid time on both DW and LJ before I leave, using the money I'm making tutoring. (Today and tomorrow alone should more than cover it, so I feel justified.) I went ahead and got the two-week free trial on LJ and therefore have 15 new icons (predictably, all ladies except for one of part of the Criminal Minds team) and feel a great urge to show them off.

I also want to catch up with everyone, because I've been so busy! So, therefore -

a couple of things.

one, I HAVE A NEW LAPTOP BOO YEAH.

*coughs* I suspect most of the time I'm looking at it I look kind of like a cat that ate a canary. It is shiny and perfect and beautiful and I love it. I ended up getting a Dell Inspiron 15R. It's a 15.6", which is smaller than I'm used to but not too small, thank goodness. It runs fast, I used Windows 7 to transfer most of my files over to it from the old laptop, and it feels pretty sturdy. also, so much space!

oh, and, uh, here's the X-Men fic I accidentally de-anoned on. totally ridiculous, feel free to skip.

okay I have been a whiny twerp most of today. this is partially because I am cramping before my period (lol body thanks for stooping to new lows of putting me in pain) and I am still feeling restless and I am tired of cleaning house even though I have done very little of it this summer. any house cleaning feels like too much right now. (I literally spent a large portion of my junior year cleaning house for my mom. and a lot of that summer. and a lot of last fall.)

I'm also having a lot of trouble concentrating. and still utterly failing at crushes.

BUT NEVERTHELESS. between yesterday and today, I have managed to write almost 3K of X-Men fic (ANON ALL ANON SO ANON). it is on two different fics. so far only the first one is embarrassing, but the second one is fast approaching embarrassing too.

and I also suddenly feel a desire to work on that Edmund/Ianto sequel. It's set in the gap between Torchwood S1&2. Edmund takes a temporary job at Torchwood while he's on the run from something. There is Time Agent shenanigans and memory loss and I think Susan might come into it! It... will likely never get finished because there is a LOT of story to it.

which reminds me that I think Charles Xavier and Lucy Pevensie would get along SMASHINGLY. (he reminds her of Tumnus. something in his smile, bright and open. or maybe it's the blue of his eyes, or the tilt of his head. she's a regenerative mutant former queen of a fantasy country, he's a paralyzed telepath mutant professor. together with her sister they fight crime/prejudice/fear/hatred!)

also that I want all the icons.

and my new shiny laptop, even though I haven't ordered it yet. (tomorrow, I hope.)

firstly, happiest of happy birthdays to Lass! I was going to post that, y'know, yesterday, but I didn't want to until the fic went up. <333333333333334569101 YOU ARE MY SUNSHIIIIIIINE, YOU MAKE ME HAPPYYYYYY WHEN SKIES ARE BLUUUUUE.

secondly, and this is kind of RL important - I need advice on buying a laptop. I don't like Macs, for starters. (I don't like working on them or their set-up style, and would need a really convincing argument to buy one.) I need a laptop that's good for graphics, is very sturdy, and as lightweight as I can get it. I want a pretty large screen, but I also need to be able to travel with it easily. I guess a 13" or 15"? And it needs to either have a lot of space on the harddrive or there needs to be an easy way for me to get more room to put stuff on. So - advice? What laptops have you found are really good? Which ones fail all the time? Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!

LASTLY AND ALSO TOTALLY IMPORTANT. This Sunday (EST) afternoon, probably starting around 2 but maybe later, I'm going to be rewatching all the Narnia movies. Timing depends somewhat on who else can be there when. I should definitely be around all afternoon anyways. I'll be on Skype and the NFFR chat rooms and Tumblr and Twitter and pretty much everywhere and would love company.

This brought on by me having a really bad headache Monday night and rewatching bits and pieces of all three movies, and continuing to do so today. (oh my god, how come the last bit of LWW always makes me cry? SO BEAUTIFUL, SO HAPPY, SO IN CONTROL and then it is all just STRIPPED AWAY FROM THEM LEWIS I HATE YOU FOREVER.) like - I don't even want to fic, there are too many feelings to fic them. TOO MANY FEELINGS. ALL I KNOW IS FLAIL AND SQUEE.

I'm really sad about school being over. Much as I'm eager and thrilled to be leaving home and going to New Zealand, this semester was really great for me, both learning-wise and personally. I feel like I've become a lot more comfortable with myself and being myself around other people. Saying what I actually think rather than bending to what people around me think about me / about the subject. And some of that has definitely been my teachers and fellow students this semester. (One of whom I have a massive crush on, ugh.)

I've been meaning to do this since Remix went live but have been kind of sick most of that time.

He That Outlives This Day was written for me. It's a remix of my HP fic How Do They Rise Up, and it is FANTASTIC. It takes the same story and goes at it from Padma's perspective instead of Hermione's. Thoughtful and beautiful and lovely. I have been so lucky with Remix authors. Every time so far, they've just turned out the most amazing remixes of some of my favorite works. <3333 Read it. It's beautiful.

THIS IS ALL TERRIBLY EXCITING.
